I happen to like the Corvette personally and each car has their own little benefits and downsides to them. Let what your 'buddy' say's go in one ear and out the other.

2002 Z06 Corvette
Here are my 2 cents, coming from a person who has owned 11 Corvettes. First off, you are comparing two totally different types of cars. One is a 2 seat sports car, the other a 4-5 passenger sports sedan. In stock form the C6 is faster, as is should be with more horsepower and lighter weight. The C55 has alot higher quality interior and a hand built engine. A true work of art. I have not driven a C55, but I have driven a 05 E55, and it was fantastic. Obviously the Corvette will get more attention, as it looks fantastic. And a 05 6 speed C6 is NOT a 12.1 car. More like a 12.6-12.8 car. And it is around 4.3-4.5 to 60. Not quite as fast as my 02 405hp Z06 to 60 or in the quarter mile. The C6 will run around 186 top speed, which is impressive to say the least.

The comparison will be when the '09 CTS-V comes out. That thing will have 550hp / 550 tq and be the 4-door luxury sedan to compare it to. But then it will be that vs a C63. Who compares a corvette to a sedan? That's so idiotic. Like someone earlier said, tell him you can get a $5k used motorcycle and whoop his vette in the 1/4th mile.

As for the Vette well it is very clear that it is a very different car.. and if all.. we all cared about was what car can go faster in a straight line.. none of us would be driving the vehicles we currently drive... different strokes for different folks...
but some of his comments are laughable at best... according to him corvette is not a chevy and c class is not mercedes? where did you find this guy?

Anyway, here's another one from my buddy. He seems to think that his car will hang with if not even beat a CLK 63 Black Series. I told him he's out of his mind, but he goes "the manufacture performance spec's you showed me are the same as the ones for my car." Plus he added "my car weighs less and is a manual, so I could likely beat it."
This topic only came up because I told him I'm considering getting one and I show him the brochure I printed up online. He did say that he liked the carbon fiber on it and gave me props for looking at a two car, but other then that he said the car is a waste of money since it costs so much more then a vette and his vette will at the very least hang with it and a new C6 with a LS3 will definitely smoke it. Plus he added the vette will still draw more attention to the ladies. Its just so frustrating talking cars with him because he is aways about his car and american cars in general being the s.h.i.t.

I can make an argument that your buddy sounds like a moron. Does it make it true? Perhaps not, but it sure felt good saying it right about now

5. The vette has heads up display, voice command, keyless go and XM radio (which according to him is way better then sirius). However, my C55 has head lamp washers, power rear sunshade, bluetooth and a ipod adapter which the vette does not have or offer for the 05 model.

I was stating that as point of fact in terms of features that are offered on my car and not available for the corvette. Its not a reason I feel for a car to be better then another. It was simply a counter point to my friends argument that his corvette has all the luxury amenities that my car does and more which is just not true.

#1. as previously suggested, tell him to put his money where his mouth is and race or shut up. unless he's experienced, its not easy racing a manual.
#2. the corvette may handle better but rides like a oxcart. have him drive you C55.
#6. in fact, right now all F1 cars are automatic.
#7. they may look but i think if you ask most women which they would rather rides in, they would pick mercedes.

I traded my 2000 C5 Corvette in on my C55. Corvette would blow my stock C55 away. No question. The Corvette was violently quick, like a gorilla playing ping pong. C55 is very smooth, more comfortable, more practical, better made, more solid. I got more looks from the ladies in my F150 pickup than in my Corvette. Dudes loved the Corvette. Ladies seem to like the C55 too

I do miss the heads up display (HUD). Nice feature!! Interior tire pressure monitoring was nice also. Factory run flats sucked. Replaced with non run flat GS-D3's, which sold me on Goodyear. Those tires got as many comments as the Corvette.

If driven correctly, the C6 will probably be faster than the C55 due to the lighter weight and more power. Last time at the track at Fontana, my friend's stock C6 Z51 was running 13.0 to 13.2 (this corrects down to 12.8 - 12.9 when you factor altitude and DA into the equation). If I recall correctly, at a different track (Famoso), the C55 ran 13.7 to 13.8 second 1/4 mile, which corrected down to 13.4. But like everyone here has mentioned, these are two different cars. The C55 is more luxurious, better interior, safer, more comfortable, more practical, more rare, and more fun 
With your mods though.... it's possible your car will hang with his and even beat it if he doesn't know how to shift properly. After I modded my C32, I smoked so many C6s that it wasn't even funny. At one of our track events, I was still slightly faster than a C6 with lighter rims, bigger intake and air filters.
