2005 C55 fully loaded or a 2005 fully loaded C6 Corvette with the Z51 package?

Okay, this has been a on going debate with a buddy of mine that own's a 05 Corvette fully loaded with the Z51 package and a manual tranny it's completely bone stock. He basically claims that pretty much in every absolute way his corvette is better then my C55. Here's what he says:

1. It's faster (even though my C55 is modified and he's unwilling to race because he says he does not want to make me feel bad about owning my car). He sights the 0-60 on his manual Z51 vette at 4.0 to 4.1 seconds and the 0-100 at 9.8 and the 1/4 at 12.1 to 12.4. He says even my modded C55 couldn't touch those numbers.
2. It handles night and day better (even though he's never driven a C55).
3. It weighs less. Which is true, however he says his corvette weighs a little over 3100lbs according to the chevy brochure even though his is fully loaded and most mags show it weighing over 3300lbs spec'd out like his.
4. The corvette navigation system blows mine away according to him. Even though I haven't used mine when he's been in my car.
5. The vette has heads up display, voice command, keyless go and XM radio (which according to him is way better then sirius). However, my C55 has head lamp washers, power rear sunshade, bluetooth and a ipod adapter which the vette does not have or offer for the 05 model.
6. The vette has a 6 speed manual tranny my C55 only has a 5 speed AMG tuned automatic.
7. The vette gets way more attention and respect from women. While most women won't look twice at a C55 AMG because they just think its a regular cheap C class.
8. According to him he says GM regards the Corvette in a class of its own and does not think of it as a Chevy. It is its own car and not a glorified version of a cheap car.
9. A C55 even though labeled a Mercedes is still just a modified C class and C class in his opinion is not a Mercedes.
10. "My Corvette in Germany costs way more then your C55 in Germany. The only reason your C55 costs more in the US is because of import taxes, so I really own a higher end car." I have not looked this up so I don't know if its true or not.
11. "The reliability of Corvette's is way higher then any Mercedes." Again I have not looked this up.
12. The stock rims and tires are way better and more expensive then what Mercedes puts on a C55. He's somewhat right in the fact that his are 19" 285 in the rear and 19" 245 in the front.

Anyway, that's pretty much it. I'm hoping some people here can give me some good counter point arguments.

Comfort and better interior in the C. It's an AMG tuned Mercedes not just regular Mercedes. German made in my opinion is better than any other country except Italy.

#1. Performance wise, C6 is closer to W211 E55 so yeah your C55 is likely slower.

#2-3. That's true... but C55 has a completely different market from C6.

#4+. So particularly #8 & #10.

C6 is a completely different/better vehicle, than the older gen c5...

My input since I owned 1 for nearly 3 yr..

Mercedes is a smoother more comfortable ride period/better interior/Sound system........ Although the new c6 HUD & touch screen navigation are superior Key-less Go etc.

Bone stock C6 Manual w/oem 3.42 gearing will kill a stock c55 in all perf regards
it will even beat heavily modded c55 N/A of course..

Having said all that, I would still choose the Mercedes any day of the week, corvette is too violent/rough in Comparo..

They look at Vettes more because they are wondering what the driver is compensating for.

No matter how much he pumps it up, it will never be a Viper; the car he really wants.

Hand Built for the C55, tell him to beat that! C6 is very nice, but comparing a 4 door to a 2 door. Tell him to find a 4 door Chevy with C6 specs.

I would just have to tell him ---- "Oh, sorry about your *****..."

He sounds like someone who has "little man" syndrome. Honestly, I'd have a hard time hanging around someone like that. But maybe he has other good qualities we're not seeing here.

Either way, it's not a competition. He chose a Vette for the performance aspects, and "yes", he has the C55 beat in that regard. Who cares!
However, ask him to go to the grocery store and carry home a month's worth of food in it, while also carrying 4 people in the car. Oh, sorry, he can't...

It's really a matter of choice. There's no defined rules for which is better. If he's that big of a choad to not realize it, then I'd let him just bask in his own glory, and not lose any sleep over it. Sounds like it's time to go "friend shopping"...

That's another thing he goes off on how its all about 2 door cars. He says 4 door cars are garbage and they can never hang with a 2 door car.

Im in the same situation with my friend who has a C6 vette!!! Crazy!!!!

My points are.... practicality. I can go to the store or shopping with the lady all day and still have tons of room. Vette ant go that.

C55 is more unassuming You dont look like a meat-head in a vette.

C55 handbuilt motor

c55 are rare vettes are all over the place.

my buddy's 05 vette misses 3rd gear all the time. miss that gear in race with a C55 any the vette is gone. stock 05 vettes have a crappy gear box kinda clunky IMO needs a better short throw.

Mercedes? Chevy? I'll take the Benz.

C55 classy and tasteful. Vette = portentous, mid life crissis, small manhhood!

C55 safer!

75K for a new vette in 05 (thats what my buddy paid) you buy a 2005 C55 New and dump the rest into parts you will blow them vette out of the water.

Vette's are for NASCAR lovers!

Not to mention the Vette using Chevy Blazer leaf springs and the interior out of a 1998 Geo Metro.

Well, in his eyes its all about Chevy and the corvette so a viper isn't **** to him. You tell him a viper is faster then his he'll say yeah, but it cost more money. Plus the Z06 for that same amount will smoke the viper. You tell him the new 8.4 liter viper will smoke the Z06 he'll say ok but it costs more and the new Corvette ZR1 will smoke that and then he'll go own about how chevy is the best.

Atleast the rear bumper of the C55 is strong and I cant literally bend with one arm like in the C6, I could nearly break it in the dealership the other day with just a kick or punch. I say safety comes first and the Mercedes cars ( Owned 4 over the years) have been nothing but great and reliable even in strong accidents.

One question,
Have you heard of any mercedes having its roof blow of at highway speeds?

The only thing he got right was the XM radio, it blows away Sirius. As for #7, any intelligent woman I've met knows the difference between an AMG and a regular Merc--plus we have a back seat unlike his Vette

Now if he had that new G8, then it would be a way better comparison.

It sounds as though he envies you...

Back in school when someone poked fun or mentioned your faults its usually cause they envy or like you...if its the later run...run...run away!

i guess you can bring up leaf spring suspension from a oxen cart and push rod engine tech from the 1920's.

He did a pretty good job of memorizing the brochure and all the numbers. Why dont you ask him if he can actually put down those numbers? And run you?

Those numbers are done by professional drivers, who most average joe drivers can't hit anyways.

With the automatic at least your going to hit consistent times.

Run and i bet they'll make him shut up.

Usually people who have to talk about how great there car is, rather then showing people how great there car is, are usually weak people.

Just like people who talk all tough and try to act all gangster are usually the biggest Pus**y of them all.

$20 saids he'll bog the launch and stall.

why would you even spend your time arguing with this person? i feel dumber just for posting this and wasting my own time however i feel its necessary.

dude, anyone who needs to measure their **** by comparing the prices of cars in another currency to justify why theirs is more "high end"...come on man, red flags everywhere on this one, thats just the tip of the iceberg.

Back away slowly from the moron, tell him his car is the best evar, turn around and run.
