Ever had to wait in the car for the wife while she's shopping at the mall when it's cold out? That's why. It's a German thing, it was an option on the european versions of my '80s-era BMW 5-series.

new input!!! another successful updated HVAC install into an '05 w203! pics to come this weekend...still haven't recieved the rest of my wood pieces so its silver and then my random wood around the HVAC, but IDC cuz its awesome! works perfectly too...though it did take me some finaggaling to get it, my ipod adapter and my ipod amp to all fit behind it since it is slightly deeper than the stock HVAC control...it kept popping out on me, but not its flush and beautiful!

white and whiter
whatever comes out of the air vent when you press REST is determined by if you were using heater or air-con. it is designed for keeping the air circulating for very short period of time if you need to just drop off a package or else and needs to shut the car off.

I saw somewhere in the EPC that the auxilary pump was required for the digital control panel. It makes sense as the heater core doesn't hold much heat.
The BMW REST system works with a pump also.

oh ok that makes more sense now...cool...I am just excited that it works more than anything...I don't see anywhere even on my panel where it has a REST feature, so...

Post a picture! I do believe that [REST] is for heat use only, as all the OEM literature and information I can find is in regards to heating the cabin...
I do also believe that [REST] needs to be laser etched onto the A/C button to be programmed into the controller...Maybe not...But I would think so.
We use [REST] in the winter re-fueling the car, dropping a packing, etc...
I also use [REST] to aid in coolant flush / re-fill as I can run the water pump without running the engine...it helps to get any air out before it is vacuumed.
GREAT NEWS!

I'm interested in knowing if REST works for cooling also (we don't need a lot of heat here in AZ). I've heard that it does, but can't confirm it.

That's a good idea. I may try that when I am purging the system after I put on my heat exchanger.

WIS Retrofit will give you build date and style to add into your car. This will be able to be used to check the fitted, or needed components (systems) to add this digital controller.
Remember, most Dealers will tell you that any non OEM Factory fitted part to your VIN will not work - COMAND is the classic example...with home work, you can use Mercedes-Benz published Retro-Fit information to perform these types of mods!
Enjoy,
Jake

Maverik259,
I have a 2005 c230ss and want to do this mod. I believe most likely I will need the same unit you have. Where did you find this? Also would you be able to provide me with the part number you got? How does it work? Does it still synchronize when you reset the climate system? Another question what production date was your car? And how can I find my production date? My current unit has the thermatic and the AC light is on when the compressor is on.

I just finished installing the digital climate control. My car is a 2005 c230K with the sport package post facelift. The sticker on the door shows manufacturing date of November 2004. The model number of the AC unit I purchased is 2038304485 and I believe came out of a CLK. The unit turns on and works just as it seems to. When I manually set the air to be diverted to the feet, windshield, and to the regular vents it all works as before. The only problem I have is that when I press the recirculating and front de-foger button for more than 5 seconds to reset the system it does not stop flashing. With the analog unit it would finish in about 25 seconds. I know all the flaps are working. My question is If I normalize the flaps through the star first will the rest via the recirculating and front de-foger work after I normalize through Star? Reading some of your swaps some people state it does normalize via the two buttons mentioned earlier and some people have to have it normalized via the star. I would love to know from those who it didnt normalize via the two buttons first and then normalized through the star if after it the button method works?
