gear slipage - did anyone else had the problem??

I was really scared for a bit..i was driving on the free way other day and when i accelerated the car to pass another car in front of me, the gear slipped..the engine kept reving but the gear won't shift. I had to pull off in the shoulder and restart the car..it was ok then. But i was really pissed off..i could have been in an accident. Taken an appt with dealer tomorrow..lets see what he says..BTW i felt terribly embarassed to pull a 2 year old AMG off the shoulder

I've never heard of that problem occurring with a C55 or C32. I assume you have a warranty.

(And I thought only C32s has problems! )

Maybe???

You might need a new trans, but they will do a diagnosis on your trans and if a fault code pops up, then they will try to see which gear it is slipping on, if its under warranty have them replace the trans. Again, a friend of mine had the same problem with his c55 and they replaced his transmission.

Post more info about this as I had this happen in 1st or 2nd when rolling slowly a couple of times. I want to address this with the dealer when I go in and have docs to support it as a KNOWN issue. Thanks

Are you sure it's gear slippage or just the well documented IC pump failure? When mine was failing (intermittently) I would floor it and the car would not move. Engine would rev high but SC would not engage. You may think it's gear slippage - but I would check here first. GL

That's funny.

So, then his IC pump is definitely NOT working.

possibly a torque converter issue? its all speculation until you get the codes check out by the dealer but i would never jump to the conclusion of a messed up transmission. that, my friend, is one expensive assumption.

have you checked for oil leaks from the gearbox ?.

A low oil can cause gear slippage and has happened to my C32 in the past

I went to the dealer today and he says it's transmission control valve problem. It happened copule of times..once at the stop light , when i pressed the gas pedal, the engine reved but did not shift and couple of times on the freeway when i pressed the gas peddle hard to accelerate. I could not reproduce it today when i was in the shop but the technician noticed the jerk when it shifted from 2-3..It's under warranty so I don't have to worry but it's kida annoying to see the transmission problem in a car that costs so much..

I experienced the same problem yersterday. The dealership diagnosed it today and confirmed I need to replace the valve control or something like that.

My car is out of warranty so they advised they can take it out then I have to find a good gearbox mechanic. Is it a good idea and how complex is the C32 gearbox. Can any mechanic work on it?

Not sure about the C55 but I had the dealer mention to me a part damage on the trans and said it could leak if not replaced. Whatever it was they replaced and it wasn't too expensive- maybe a seal or something.
