Powder Coated Engine Bay. 100% less rice.

I saw a picture of how nice it would look to powder coat them. I don't regret it one bit. Forgive me for the poor quality photos. They were taken from my phone when I picked up my car today.

These were rough pictures of my engine bay that were taken at night.

These were taken this morning.

The guy that's building my MR2 did it for me.

All I have to do is make one phone call and your RX-7 will be ready in 2 weeks. I would put money on it.

Very sharp. Appears especially menacing with your exterior color.

I’ve often admired the black crinkle finish on BMWs…yours looks better!

Man, I have powder coated everything from a camera that went to space to a Razor kick scooter. I am impressed with your concept and execution. Strictly top shelf.

The AMG motor has long needed a little "set dressing." You have done it to perfection.

That complements the color of your car and makes our engines look more exotic
What kind of shops could do that? And how much do you think it costs?

Looks awesome! Don't think a stock C55 engine bay can benefit as much from such a treatment...

Looks great Tony!!!
You can always go with the c/f airbox and just coat the plastic cover.

Looks awesome!

BUT you forced induction guys complain of heat issues and those powder coated parts aren't going to dissipate heat as well.

Do you guys have IAT2 sensors after the blower in the lower intake that you can take a reading from to make a comparison?

I'm not too sure. I took the car to the same guy that is working on my MR2. He brought the guy to his shop and and did it for him.

Im not too sure if there are any sensors after the blower. I'm not as informed as some of the other guys on the forums but I've never have known of any situations where IAT would be problematic.

I'm not the boy racer type either that constantly has the pedal to the metal. So I think that in normal driving conditions the car shouldn't suffer any performance degradation. I have upgraded to an LET Heat Exchanger, Johnson IC pump, and phenolic spacers based on splinters recommendation and I must say it's fantastic. Whether Code3 or LET it's one of those things one must do (And it looks amazing!).

Ultimately this car isn't going to see daylight that often when my MR2 gets out of the shop. I'd probably have more heating problems on the MR2 given the engine is in the back.

Again thank you all the kind words. I just love how it looks.

I have a background in working with the Ford Lightning vehicles and those have a second IAT sensor in the lower intake before the heads and after the blower. It's a nice tuning tool to see how effective upgraded heat exchangers are, nitrous, etc.

Just curious if this was the case with the C32 as you may see for example a 20 degree increase as the powder coated metal of the supercharger can't transfer heat as well anymore and may cause performance issues.

All in all what you did is a great cosmetic upgrade for sure. Just giving a heads up for people that may not see the negative if there even is one to care about that are worried about all out performance.

Looks stunning! Props for the great idea!

Question regarding the HE, did you guys make any special modification to get the plastic piece in the middle (the famous tooth) out of the way?
