weird he could have just purchased one and fixed it. An e46 is a big downgrade IMO maybe he's going to send it to HPF and have them hook it up.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but.. I just did this on my c55 looks great except the tires seem to be a bit small. The rims look like they need a bigger tire. I'm running 225/255. Anybody else our there have this problem? Can I go to a bigger tire?

I was actually planning on searching for this thread this weekend anyway and it found me! I really want to get my hands on some of those wheels. They look like a HUGE pain to clean but I really like the look.

Ive never been a fan of the million spoke rims, but then again I've never been much of a fan of any of the OEM MB rims except the new black series ones on the C63...

Go big or go home :-P
I have 235/ 275 combo stuffed under the car with Koni Sports. Big difference on the track but I want more!

As I was trying to go by AMG performace salon spec: SL55's on my C55. Thanks to Tru Tang for his impressions. I used RAD 12mm x 1.5 14mm ball seat 26mm shank bolts. SL55 rims are 18 x 8.5/9.5 et 30/33.
The result is rediculous looks and HUGE increase in handling with zero rubbing, no use of spacers or ANY issues. I gained 1 inch of track front and a hair more rear, .5" of tire section width at each corner, and it is neutral and turns in amazingly due to the roll center changes. It does however ride a bit harsher having 225/255's on instead of 235/265, but the turn in response and directness is HUGE.
Before anyone makes improper comments the offsets are what AMG peformace salon suggest, so what's good for the safety car is good for me. Positive comments only please.
I Just did a canyon run and had to lower the rear pressure 1lb because the front was gripping so well! 36 all around cold is perfect on 225/255 RE01R's. The turn in is out of hand. Where the c55 used to be a pig in slow speed corners now it is more P car. I easily gained 20mph+ in ANY corner.
Check it out:

Yes, lots of fender grinding, 265's would fit without any issue.

I don't think any c55 guys have tried it yet, I rubbed with 265\35\18 and 275\35\18 will rub even more to the point that someone on here does not recomend to do it. After some grinding I got rid of mine, not sure if grinding will work on 285\30\18 but I have been thinking of doing this on my next set of tires since it is a shorter tire than 275\35\18, if anything you can resale the tires and lose about 200-300 bucks. 265 just is not beefy enough for me

285/30 smaller diameter than 275/35
25'' compare to 25.6''
in slick 24.8
for the next autocross season I would like running 255/35 front and 285/30 rear or 245/35 and 285/30 in slick
I'am not sure if will I go with slick or street tire
with c55 if you will go fast in autocross you need large tire (I think)

I moved on to a 944 Turbo track car and left the C55 to the wife.

So silly question on such an old thread. And I know SPR isn't around anymore. But can you use OE lug bolts from the SL55? Or do you need to get the aftermarket ones by RAD?

Like I said in your thread. You will need R14 ball seated lugs to work w/ your car. I worked w/ SPR (via PM) a long time ago to help him get these wheels mounted up.
