SL55 rims on C55 = DONE

As I was trying to go by AMG performace salon spec: SL55's on my C55. Thanks to Tru Tang for his impressions. I used RAD 12mm x 1.5 14mm ball seat 26mm shank bolts. SL55 rims are 18 x 8.5/9.5 et 30/33.

The result is rediculous looks and HUGE increase in handling with zero rubbing, no use of spacers or ANY issues. I gained 1 inch of track front and a hair more rear, .5" of tire section width at each corner, and it is neutral and turns in amazingly due to the roll center changes. It does however ride a bit harsher having 225/255's on instead of 235/265, but the turn in response and directness is HUGE.

Before anyone makes improper comments the offsets are what AMG peformace salon suggest, so what's good for the safety car is good for me. Positive comments only please.

I Just did a canyon run and had to lower the rear pressure 1lb because the front was gripping so well! 36 all around cold is perfect on 225/255 RE01R's. The turn in is out of hand. Where the c55 used to be a pig in slow speed corners now it is more P car. I easily gained 20mph+ in ANY corner.

Check it out:

Is that +20mph analyses perhaps a slight embellishment? Regardless, I like ‘em. Looks good!

Looks good! I didn't think the SL55 Wheels would fit our W203s. Would 235s in the front have rubbed?

granite grey.

wheel looks good some SL and CLS wheels does fit the W203 because their offset is around 30-33. the dual-spoke from the SL and CLS also fits. IMO the C55 should've come with these offsets to begin with.

20mph+ in ANY corner? I'd love to see that...granted you don't under or oversteer into the trees or down the hill.

With my driving background that's not happening.

Believe it or not, but seriously the difference is that great if you have the ability to utilize it. Bear in mind these are not regular tires I'm running, the tread wear rating is in the 100's and they recommend them for much larger rim widths than stock, so that's also likely a lot of it- having them work correctly. I was that amazed myself, it's just not the same car period. The colour is granite grey. All of the rim differences made a huge difference. I also have the camber bolts in the front.

The only minute difference is that AMG performance salon wants 31 not 33 for the rear offest. I have thought about adding a 2mm spacer but I have to measure how much bolt is protruding out the rim as well as whether or not there will be any rubbing. As it is now, there is nothing all around.

Anyone running 31 et in the rear, or know how much is the max section width that work WITHOUT any rubbing?

From my research on the tire size stuff, I have read that the 235's will fit just fine as all the 19" people seems to say. It appears with proper offset that you can get a tire with up to 9.8" front section width when running 30-32 offset front. (this is what is posted). I think my current front section width is 9.3 and rear 10.5. I don't know about the rear as no one has posted that information as discretely.

I already had the tires -that's why I went with 225/255. The best part is that I picked the rims up for around $400 and sold my stock ones for $900-.

on 18" you are running the correct size. if you go up to 235/265 on 18" it'll make the overall diameter slightly larger than that of the 235/265 in 19" which means you would run into greater chance of rubbing.

on 9.5" width rear 33-35 offset is fine.

Gotcha. Well offset wise I would be going out from 33 to 31, so the concern is rubbing that block on the inside of the bumper-I'll have to take my caliper and measure to. FWIW I measured the front rim without the tire and had 4mm between the rim and the strut tube-

The section width size for the front on a 235 would be 9.6 up from 9.3 still within the 9.8 limit and 10.7 for the 265 rears up from 10.5 in re01r 18 size.

Looks great. That style of rim adds a luxury look to the C and compliments the color very nicely.

Thanks guys. I really like the look more and more. Every time I come out to the car I am awestruck by how aggressive it looks. I was going for a clk63bs look. I actually ran into a BS today at Tommy's here in SD btw. I also thought about polishing them but am glad I didn't as they would be a real nightmare to keep clean. I could have actually got a set of very similiar rims off an 08 sl55 but I actually like the 22 spokes better. Here is a set on ebay:

Anyone have a super product to keep brake dust from sticking? I quick detail my rims every car wash (basically a polish wax). I'm going to change the pads soon but I'm not going ceramic as I want more peformance with a pagid S pad. For that matter anyone have a special took that makes it easy to clean them with? As I have the car washed, I'll probably try using those griot sticks wrapped with a mf towel and the quick detail. Hopefully that should make it easier.

hmm. Is that good for just cleaning the stuff off or for reducing the buildup?

+1 - get some good ceramics if you're looking to reduce dust substantially. As for a product, I think Wheel Wax works pretty well - my local MB dealer sells it, but you can also get it from detailed image (a forum sponsor).

As for the aggressive look - I like it too. Reminds me of a couple of these:

Count the spokes next time you see it. The SLK55 wheels bolt right on but they have 16 spokes instead of 22 spokes (these SL wheels).

Looks fantastic -- props to you! Being less radical, I put the direct bolt on SLK 55 16 spoke turbine rims on my C55.
