But one thing did disappoint me about the SMG though. I'd thought at least I would be able to throw the gears just like a real 6-speed, but instead it was just little pushes up and down. I think if I were to get it I'd go for the manual instead of the SMG, although the 6-speed clutch does look quite ugly (it's way too long for my taste).
yeah, it's all computer controlled. you can't do stuff you normally could with the human operated clutch. I still prefer SMG though. Still trying to learn how to properly drive a stick shift.

C32 vs E46 M3

I'd pick the E46 M3.

Responding to Viktorious' question regarding to a good digicam at the upper scale of the price range that you've specified, my pick would go to Fujifilm FinePix F601. A wonderful performer, and great looking unit. Designed by Porsche. If you opt for something cheaper a FinePix 40i will do well. Both cameras will take some wonderful pics of your nice ride.

hahaha! No we flew there and then we transported the car home using a U-Haul. Sooooo boring and long, never do this. We ran into so many problems. U-Haul trucks suck! We got a flat tire in PA and to top that off i spotted excessive leaking of oil under the truck. U-Haul took it back, looked at it, and said nothing was wrong, gave us back the truck. Worst trip home in my life...
U-HAUL SUCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

You are not supposed to, but I have found that at anything less than half throttle, a very slight lift does wonders to smooth it out. At full throttle, upshifts are about perfect with no lift. You can see what it was designed for by this behavior.

BTW, on the C32 vs. M3 debate, it's not even about which car is "better". They do two different things. The C32 is a q-car and the M3 is a sports car. The M3 is very thrilling to drive, no doubt. Sometimes I wish I had one because of the handling, but 95% of the time, I made the better choice for myself.

Vishall,

SMG and the automatic transmission in the SL have nothing to do with each other. Drive the SL like any other automatic. If you lift right as the car is going for an upshift, you are possibly in for a jerky upshift.

C32 vs M3

This question has always been a no-brainer for me. The C32 is definitely the BEST of both worlds, luxury and performance. There are several other factors that I didn't notice a lot of folks touching on.

Re-sale value. Hands down goes to M-B. moot point. Look through the classifieds and pick out how many smokin' deals you can find on a nearly new BMW. Unbelievable. Great for the buyer, though!

Service. Yikes! Have you ever visited a BMW service department? How were you treated? That's what I thought.

History. The looming threat alone of a possible engine falilure is enough to keep myself and MANY others away from the M3. Add the former point I mentioned about service, and well, you get the picture.

Keep your manual transmission, and use it in good health. I'm completely satisfied.

What you said might keep you away from buying a M3, but surely not many other people who bought the car. including my friend.

Service depends on the dealership. I used to have a 2000 328Ci and the service from my dealer was very good. They are on the same level as their neighboring HOI, where i service my car now.
