Steering wheel difference

I have a C320. Got to test drive a C32 AMG today. The steering on the C32 is different. The handle had a firmer grip. Now, besides that, is there a physical difference in the steering between the 2 cars?

Not really, I think the rim is a little thicker and there is a very very slight bulge at 10 and 2 o'clock.

What did you think of the car?

Oh it was great. We had 5 people and I gave everyone whiplash with my sudden bursts of acceleration.

What did you mean by "rim is a little thicker"? You mean the steering wheel is bigger or the handle is thicker?

Yo, I just test drove a C32 today. It was awesome. Probably going to order it soon.

The diameter of the cross section of the rim is higher, in other words, it is more meaty to grab onto. So I suppose you could describe it as the handle being thicker. The bulges I described at 10 and 2 are hard to notice, but they are there.

AMG sells a suede/leather version from their F1 safety cars. It's nearly the same except for that the bulges are very large. It also might be thicker.

what Justin said...

let me help with the picture

you'll notice the 10 and 2 o'clock position has thicker thumb grip, and it has a straight edge rather than round.

Yeah, I did notice the bulges right when I test drove it. Damn it was sweet. Somehow the car seemed easier to steer. Didn't know the steering bars could make such a difference in the feel.

the C32 is a little more responsive because of the sway bars and the bigger rims and tires. But from my car and my loaner C320 wagon, i think my car has heavier steering.

FrankW - What's on your dash??

Hey FrankW,

Ehat is that thing on your dash, close to the windshield. It looks like an indicator screen or something. It is shaped like an arc???

I have an 03 and do not have this.

That pic is from the Euro version of the car. It is a parktronic indicator screen. It tells you how close you are to hitting something when in the parking lot!
