Got radar gunned today...

Does anyone knows if I’ll be getting a speeding ticket through the mail with a possible snapshot of my license plate; just got radar gunned today; he was hiding within a double-overpass shadows (Mountain Ave in Upland) with his bike parked in the 210 freeway’s pull over lane / left shoulder; right next to the fast lane (pretty dangerous for him). Couldn’t have had spotted him until up close; sun was in my eyes.

Since when Calif started to speed trap like this on the freeway? In Connecticut, they would radar gun you on an overpass and radio patrol cars a shot distant down the freeway and have officers step out of their patrol unit to point you out for the pull over; quite a few speeders at the same time; a good way to save our tax $; nowadays gas prices; one on one.

TIA

maybe his radar was just on or perhaps he didn't think you were worth pulling over since you weren't going that fast.

i know in washington d.c., they have these unmarked cars parked on the side of the city roads with radar and video machine set up and if you were speeding, a couple weeks later you'd get a ticket in the mail with your picture, how fast you were going, etc. never heard about this for cali though.

what kind of radar detector do you have if it didn't warn you in time? unless he used laser on you instead of radar

I hope what you said is right; my speed just wasn’t worth pulling over. And that’s the end of it. My last speeding ticket was over 10 years ago. I was telling myself: I’ll still behave for long long time if I can walk away free from this one.

Though I’ve heard getting your picture taken for moving violation on the streets can in fact ends up with a ticket in your mailbox, especially from cams for running the red light. But has anyone gotten a ticket via mail; same situation as mine; on the freeway in Southern Calif?

I just have one of those way outdated Escort Passport 7500 that I don’t even bother to stick it to my windshield.

By the way, is the Escort Passport 7500 still useful to some degree? Or it isn’t worth using comparing to all those newer tech models on the market.

Thanks

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
You can google police radar

in Ca. if they have not upgraded to the latest guns the old school K X Ka and laser guns should be detected by your 7500.Although the new ones with the increased range and GPS logging of signals and cameras might be a wise investment if you are going fast enough to raise a sweat

To answer your original question, no. You would have been pulled over by the officer and written up on the spot. The only way you would receive a photo ticket is if you had been warned, by signage, that you were at risk of a photo radar, and then it would be via fixed-base towers and automatic cameras.

You just ran across a cop that either was too lazy to go after you or felt you speed did not cross his threshold of "ticketablitiy".

On the outside chance that something did arrive in the mail, you would have a strong case to fight it.

Maybe you thought he had the gun on you but it was really on someone else? Funny you should meniton the 210 and cops hiding in the shadows. I experienced the same thing east on the 210 -- luckily I was on the cell phone in a right hand lane and not speeding -- but saw a bike cop clocking people from under the pass. All I thought was D.I.C.K.

A month ago 15 North going to Vegas and just North of Victorvolle there was a cop gunning people from the overpass..once under the bringe there were 5 black/whites lined up waiting to get radioed to pull over so-and-so doing so-and-so.

Geez, lately its not only other drivers on the road we have to be careful of. Seems like there are way more speed traps out there tying to generate a little more revenue for the cities and state.

All I can say is this.. In my state florida we are certified in speed estimation and radar or laser verification. Thats mean that we take a very hard class 50hrs. To estimate speed and verify with the gun. Which means that if I say your going 50mph and I verify with my lets say prolaser 3 that you are going 50 you get the ticket. We can only be off by 2mph + or -.
Good luck

Thanks a bunch for everyone’s helpful info / tips, particularly ScottW911’s specifics; what a relief. I’ll keep my word to behave, fortunately this reminder served with 0 cost, as for the safety; have been enjoying my low cost of insurance for years.

no matter what kind of radar detector you have, it won't be very effective unless it's on your windshield and able to scan ahead to warn you.

also keep in mind that since you haven't had a ticket in over a couple years (10 in your case) you could have gotten it wiped by going to traffic school.

I tend to see a lot of cops on mountain ave though when I'm down at school. But generally they seem to busy to be pulling people over, except that one time there was that big shooting by the 210 overpass a couple months back.

If you're in claremont, the speed traps I always see are on Monte Vista and Shenandoah, the cops hide on that street and get people coming down from the raised overpass near 210 going south. Also they hide on arrow right before indian hill near intersection before the elementary school in the bushes.

My passport has saved my butt a few times there.

Oh yes, of course, I didn’t even realize that 2nd chance until you’ve mentioned it; good old traffic school, do they still let you complete those hours by taking exam online instead of being there physically for pretty much the whole day? I took one of those online exam just around 10 years ago also for a dumb moving violation.

I better put my Escort back on just in case one of the officer decided do things by the book (wouldn’t let you off for slightly over) and pick me to end his quota of the day.

Don't worry about it. You probably weren't going fast enough for him to pull you over. I've got lucky like that a few times. Now I have the V1 tho.
