New car C32/C55 or Z06 Corvette?

I'm thinking of picking up either an AMG C (probably the C32 for its modability) or a 2002-2005 Corvette Z06. Obviously on a full blown straightaway the Vette would be quicker (405hp @ 3200lbs vs 350hp @ 3500lbs) but I see a lot of gripes with how cheap the C5 Corvette interior is.. The C isn't the pinnacle of MB interior quality but it is still lightyears ahead of the Z06. C32's are highly mod-able compared to the C55 , but the 02-04 C electronics is a little less reliable than +05. Both you can modify to achieve the acceleration of a stock Z06.

I'm still on the fence about this, which would you guys buy? (Trying of course to forget the obvious bias )

I think you've listed a lot of the pros and cons in your post.

I've only just become a C55 owner. Love it.

Have never driven a C32 so I can't comment.

Have driven several Z06s of the vintage you are describing and you have hit the nail on the head. Corvette interiors of that era are like Fisher Price cars (the new ones are a little better). On the other hand, the cars are wicked fast -- if rough driving - rocket ships. And they look very nice on the outside.

Depends on what is more important to you. A C-class is certainly a much more versatile car. What are you going to do with it primarily?

If you were talking about a C6 Z06 I would say ZO6 all the way but if its between those and a C5 Vette then deff go with a Merc!

one is a coupe and one is a sedan, does that make any difference to you?

Depends

Depends on what you do with your car.

Daily driver: C32/C55 will be more comfortable and practical. You can bring three friends and luggage.

Drag racing: Z06 or C32 with mods.

Roadcourse: z06.

The Vette image can be a little hard to swallow too, while the C32 and C55 are (like lots of MBs) pretty timeless and classy.

LET C32 2002
If you don't need to tote people around then answer is obvious if its not an issue then depending on many a factors

like Fifth elaborated but I add..

If you are gonna pay way more for the C5 ZO6 Vette then consider the difference in price to mod either a C32/55 to have the advantage and go with MB. If automatic tranny is an issue then the Vette wins automatically. There is nothing like a four door sedan from MB passing you up when its least expected...

If you can get away with 2 doors my vote is for the C5 Z. With just some simple inexpensive bolt on's they wake up more than what they are stock.

If you are not into modding and want 4 doors C55

If you are into modding and need 4 doors C32.

I have driven the C5 Z06 many times and ya the interior is cheap but for the price that car is a rocket and handles very very well.

what's funny is I was just going through this a month ago. I had a 07 c230 sport and loved the car but it just lacked that extra 160hp or so and me being a guy that is used cars with some hp I started to look again and C5 Z06 is a really good bang for the buck but I was so used to driving the C230 that when I was driving other cars (c5 Z06) the only thing running through my head was how cheap and squeaky the car was. I drove 7 C5s and all were the same when it came to squeaks and feel. C5 is a very good track car pretty stiff for a driver every day. I own a automotive shop for 20 years I have driven and worked on almost everything. I own a 06 C55 as of about 2 weeks ago and I will never look back again. I you want a fast track car and wanna do mods and make big hp pretty easy then C5 or C5 Z06 is the way to go but if you want one of the best and most comfortable driving cars buy a Benz period. I love my C55 it has great hp for the street, I can still play around with it, I can drive it hard and it loves it, then I can drive it like grandma with 4 adults in it.

C32 or C55 my vote unless it's a track car

^^ Yeah that.

The price of Corvette parts are far cheaper (especially with the VAST used aftermarket).

A C5 ZO6 with a intake, exhaust and tune is an insane monster.
