I got home at around 3 am last night went up to my apt. and went back to my car to get the camera out, I just had the feeling. Well I come out today to go for a ride and I see a huge hole in my window, radar detector Passport 8500 got stolen, my sunglasses were left alone, backpack was in the back seat. I'm not angry but I hope I get to see this fellow who did this to my car and just look him in the eye.

Sorry to hear about this, man. There have been an unusually high number of reports of thefts, is seems, lately on this forum. I guess we can't leave any electronic devices laying out.

My anti-thief-damage device is simple: I haven't fixed the driver's door "pogo lock". That way, my door never locks, they can just help themselves without breaking in.

Sorry about this. We had the same thing happen to my daughters car. Now I installed a nice web cam with night vision in front of my house. I wish we had stickers or something saying you're being taped- maybe they would keep walking.....who knows. The punks got through the rear window which costs BIG BUCKS cause it's never in stock.

Hope someone can catch that M Efer for ya. First everyone was getting hit and having wrecks (including me) and now everyone is having their sh!1 smashed and stolen. I put an IR, motion activated, outdoor camera tracking movement around my vehicles just so I can catch that unsuspecting ******* when he comes around. I highly recommend it to everyone. You can buy them at WalMart for pretty cheap.
Here are some pics.....

never under estimate the stupidity of a thief. They will be back to hit another car. Sometimes street justice is the the only answer. I once caught a guy slashing my tires and after i was finished I dont think he will ever slash anyones tires again. Check with local pond shops and let them know what was stollen. This could be your best bet if it was a crackhead.

Damn man, sorry to hear about this. Between the break ins on here lately, and on the local SRT forum, it's getting pretty bad. Crappy thing is that there isn't much you can do to prevent it other than to take all the goodies out of your car when you aren't using it.

It was visible. It was kind of low more towards the dashboard, slightly above the windshieldwipers. I had it down at the windshieldwiper level and it was invisible from the outside, but I got a ticket two days ago because the detector went off 2 secs before I passed the cop. So I though by raising it a little bit the wipers wouldn't block it (they probably didn't but I still thought it wouldn't hurt).

I got the ticket because I missed an exit on a highway and kept going. I was in a bit of a hurry after turning around. The reason I was out driving is because I missed a FedEx guy 3 times in a row and had to drive to their office, if one of these events didn't happen I wouldn't of adjusted the height of my radar and gotten robbed.

2nd time I got a speeding ticket because of missing my turn, I guess I'm going to look for newzchpsy's garmin on ebay.

This make me sick. I feel for you bro, just two weeks of moving to Dallas last year, my previous car (Honda Accord) was broken into while it was parked near the front of an LA Fitness gym. The area where the gym is located is in the decent side of Dallas. It was 8PM and not even completely dark and the thieves broke into my passenger front side window. I was pretty ticked and to make things worst when reported to the gym management they acted like they never cared! They stated that it's not their responsibility for the members vehicles and will not provide any form of security or even installing surveillance cameras...I spoke to their regional manager and no cigar, there were numerous car break-ins that happen that month until the arseholes were caught, come to find out they were from out of town.

The return in investment isn't too good on breakins, but you're also not dealing with nobel laureate economists either. A couple years ago my wife had my camera bag stolen from my car. Insurance paid me replacement value at something like $6,600. A few weeks later the police tracked most of the contents to a pawn shop where the perp had pawned it for $250.

As for leaving the car unlocked to avoid broken glass, my understanding is that your insurance won't pay out on loses that weren't secured properly (i.e. behind locked doors).

I don't think a camera is a good deterent. The hotel had clear pictures from three different CCTV cameras of the track-suited knacker breaking into my car in a well lit garage. It only works if you're watching it and in a position to do something about it, like moving to Texas where you can shoot him from your window.

We're so sorry to hear of the issue! I can't stand some people, that's just a very low thing to do.

On a side note, not that I suggest this, but, you may want to look into a 2-way alarm of some sort. I was having issues with one of my cars a couple years back and installed a 2-way alarm that would page me [on the alarm remote] if someone tampered with my car. I used to keep my keys next to my good friend [Louisville Slugger] just in case anything happened. Though, in the end, I do suggest calling the police if you see anyone breaking into the car

I'm sure everything will turn out for the best.

sorry to hear that. that sucks, i guess just a sign of the slowing economy. But the others are right, people like that usually come back to steal from someone else's car. If he had to smash your window to get the items in your car, he's not a pro. He's probably some dumb kid whose doing it just to get some quick cash. He'll probably be caught soon. Just be vigilent.
