Any progress on this? It would be nice to run a race gas tune for a few extra ponies.

You basically flip a switch to change between tunes. Drive around on a street tune, then when you go to the track dump some race gas in the tank and flip the switch to race tune. Maybe worth 15-30whp? I'm looking for something to push me into the 11's without raisng the boost yet. Thee Needswings intake manifolds should do it when they are finally available, but a race gas tune would be nasty.

BTW Inmotion could do a custom race tune, but they would have to open up your ECU and socket it for a chip. Then you would have to pull your ECU and swap chips all the time. Too much of a hassle.

Being able to change timing with the flip of a switch, depending on what octane fuel you are running. Mopar offered this option with their "turbo toys" for the stage 2 & 3 upgrades for the SRT-4. It was referred to as High Octane Mode(HOM). On a stage 3, HOM would give you an instant 50-60whp increase if you ran 100 octane or higher. Nothing like hitting the switch in the middle of a race, and then get accused of spraying after the race was over. The look of confusion on people's faces afterwards was priceless when you let them check your car over and they can't find any nitrous.

This one guy I raced swore up and down that I sprayed on him. He said he heard the sudden change in my motor, so that had to mean I was spraying. He checked under my hood, in the trunk, inside the car, everywhere. He just kept saying "I know you've got it hidden somewhere."

It's an awesome feature, and would be great on our cars.

As per Mopar:

Fill the tank with 100 (R+M)/2 octane unleaded fuel, press the red switch located on the Turbo Toys bezel, and discover instant torque and power gains. The PCM will increase spark advance and adjust fueling to take full advantage of the 100 octane unleaded fuel. The red indicator lamp will illuminate when High Octane Mode is active. During High Octane Mode operation, the PCM prevents damaging detonation via the OEM knock detection system. High Octane Mode will be bypassed if damaging knock is detected. The red indicator lamp will blink when High Octane Mode is bypassed. Spark advance and fueling are returned to standard levels in bypass mode. The blinking indicator light can be turned off by pressing the red High-Octane Mode switch. Entering bypass mode is an indication that higher-octane fuel is required. NOTE: It is recommended that the level of premium fuel be as low as possible when adding high-octane fuel. Before the High Octane Mode is engaged, the tank level should be reduced until the low fuel indicator is blinking and ? lled completely with 100 (R+M)/2 octane unleaded fuel. The use of leaded fuels will cause damage to the vehicle’s catalytic converter and oxygen sensors.
Most stage 3 owners I knew had trouble holding high octane mode on 100 octane, but could hold it with 110 octane. I personally never had a problem holding it on 100 octane, as long as I used Delta Sonic 100 octane.

custom tuning

yeah there are many ways to provide "custom" maps without having to mail in your ECU. Here's a very common one on the Jap scene.

http://www.cobbtuning.com/products/?id=3750

The simple device has a few "custom" maps pre-installed. You can change the map in a matter of seconds - although not in the middle of a run like the flip-switch. You can also revert to stock and the stealer will never know.

In japanese cars, you can just load different maps via laptop and obdII port.

Lot of japanese tuners, would have two maps. One to pass smog and one for performance.

From what i heard, on the stock ecus, you can't load maps through the obdii port. You have to actually take out the ecu and directly connect it.

I think there just haven't been much R & D going into it to make it possible. I think its certainly possible since its OBDII, but i dont think anyone's cracked it yet.

I have a inmotion socket in the ecu, and you can switch chips in about 5 minutes. I have multiple set ups! Downside= no one else can read or write over it should you choose to go with another company. You would have to buy a factory blank chip solder it back in then get it flashed ( only $15 and a little time though)

yeah i would rather have a stand alone system like a kpro. I know a lot of the rsx guys just email each the fuel maps if they have same mods, so they can save some cash on tuning.

yeah i was looking into it when i thought about doing a k-swap into my em2. i know most tuners prefer the hondata, but both units are good.

I decided to junk that and go with s300 on a boosted gsr. I was in the middle of my engine build. Then i junked that idea and went with the c32..lol.

I junked it mostly because of the fear of theft and my insurance company wouldn't let me insure my engine mods.

Yes, we have everything needed to start selling the "switch tune".

Let me get some pricing and more details.

Agree w/ others that this would be a nice feature... but I think SRTpowa said it well in the original post "for a few extra ponies" - this is much more common with turbo cars (like the aforementioned SRT-4), because you can change boost via the ECU. This opens up huge potential gains, and IMHO is why this is so popular for turbo cars like STi, Evo, SRT-4, Audis, VW's, etc.

With our S/C'd engine, you'd realistically have 2-3 tunes - custom for your mods (street gas), custom for your mods (race gas), and maybe stock in case you wanted to be able to convert it back before selling it down the road.
