Hello and a Q

I have had a C55 for some time, and have been a long time lurker who is now finally deciding to make some internal changes. First off is the car did not come with the nav system. Just a cd in the dash and a changer in the glove box.

What is the first step to doing this and is it possible. I did search and there was no one answer on how to do this or even an agreement on if it is doable.

I also posted in classifieds about wanting to buy one so hopefully I get this answer first..... Guess I jumped the gun a bit...

My car 2005 C55. A few mods....

sure anything is possible, The question is... (and i dont have the answer to this part) Does a "non-command" equipped car (command is the name of the gps/navi headunit.) have fiber optic wires? The Command headunit is. if it was not prewired with fiber optic lines it would be very hard to install a command head unit. as the command unit runs sound though fiber optics.
If it is not wired with fiber optic than just do an top notch aftermarket system that is way better than the stock Mercedes Command system.

Well I believe that all MB cars 2005+ use the MOST system. Am I correct that this is the fiber optic system?

Does the 2005 C55 have the all fiber system?

I am guessing that the system is plug and play, just hoping one of the Gurus here will post and say go for it should be easy.

Thanks...

MY C55 is all fiber optic, but i have command... so I dont know if a non-command MB has fiber optic. some one will chime in who has a non navi head unit.

I believe but not positive that all C32s atleast have all fiber optic wiring but the speaker wires are just speaker wires.......all located in a central location. I believe all head units,cd changers etc are connected via fibers but speakers are still fed thru wires.

I did the OEM MCSII unit retrofit. Very easy, and my recommendation is to contact Steve at MBenznl@gmail.com for the factory unit.

Here is a link of a Kenwood install put into a 2007 C230 - which is the same guts as our C55's.

I sent an email off to Steve. I am guessing he will be able to quickly and precisely send me in the right direction to completing my project.

Many thanks to everyone who responded.

unless you are wanting to keep it OEM- you could do a better setup if you went aftermarket. it would be cheaper also. just an idea.
