Enabling the Larger Gear Display

Now that we have the picture that JustinTRW found, anyone want to call/write AMG or MB and see if it is possible?

That picture is a "pre-production" picture. It depicts the new Manual (Shift button's behind the steering wheel) transmission . The "M" means manual mode. The mode you switch into in order to use the shift buttons. This most likely is comming in the 2004 C32/C35.

Yeah, when you call, also ask them how to make it red.... as Ian was talking about in the thread that was closed.

Do any of ya know how to remove/open the parking indicator lamp housing? One of my burned out. Parking indicator lamp is the little W195 modelled lamps located in the inner part (toward the grill) of the headlamp assembly. I tried to pull and twist the base of the housing, but it won't budge. Is brute force needed? HELP... my C32 looks ghetto now.

What I saw was a similar 2 character display, for example SD while the car is in D and it was on a 2002 C32!

My Uncle's 2002 C200 in Indonesia also has that Large Gear display. Maybe it's just a feature for Asian mercedes.

The display in the picture is very similar to ours in the US, with the exception of the significantly larger current gear display in the upper right corner of the LCD (where it says M1). While that photo may be a pre-production model, others have stated seeing a larger gear display outside the US...

not to be a jackass but whats the big deal??? this topic of a display being a tiny bit bigger is more of a discussion than the newly installed ODPS on pc's car. People should know what gear your in after one glance anyway unless you sit there and look at the gear display of your automatic transmission every second

That is the problem,, we all know the usual sequence of gear selections! PRND4321(5 forward speed automatic cars) for virtually all automatic transimission cars!

But in the case of driving the car at fast speed or whenever you need to focus on the road as much as possible and you are in manual selection that is when the large gear display really pays off!

I had mine set today!

Talking

I will tell everyone that PM me what to do except for ro0zy since he doesn't think it's important! j/k!

Its very simple, just set the regional setting on the instrument display from U.S. to R.O.W. from the Star Diagonostic system!

It looks cleaner, sportier and most important more readable since not everyone have the time to "sit there and look at the gear display of your automatic transmission every second"! eg, on the race track,,,,

Did the dealer charge you to change the setting? Any other implications to changing the region?

No charge for me,, it was a relatively easy change!

Less than 5 minutes including the time to hook up the hardware!
I can't imaging being charge more than 1/2 labor if your dealer will not do it for free!

Is this change possible on the C320 as well, or just the C32? Also, any other implications of this R.O.W. setting?

Great gas mileage 38 MPG

Yeh why is this in C32 AMG? I have a C230K Coupe
Last week I took my car to get the cell phone and voice module coded.

I asked them to set the dash display to large numbers, dealer set regional setting to instrument display from USA to R.O.W.

I love the larger shift display, there were days that I could not see the dispaly with sun in the eyes and my wearing sunglasses etc. This was cool.

But suddenly I was getting as much as 38 miles per gallon. Tuesday I went from Burbank to Manhattan Beach and averaged 36 MPG, this at 3:30 PM through downtown traffic no less.

It actually looks like I was getting great mileage, 1/8 tank to/from Burbank about 66 miles.

But I wonder, miles are miles but are all gallons the same? No there is the dreaded Imperial gallon, The Imperial gallon is about a fifth larger than the US gallon.

So the question is, what country is R.O.W. ? Do they use the Imperial gallon?

Anyone elso that used the ROW setting, did this happen to you too?

In the US mode, the instrument cluster shows the complete shifter sequence...which looks a lot better in my honest opnion.
In the rest of the world the shifter display only shows the S versus C and the actual gear that is selected.
In order to get that display changed the IC does not have to be set to the rest of world...by setting it to the rest of world one will loose a lot of other US specific setings (like the key-in-car beep).

The gear selector display can be changed as a separate variable setting in the instrument cluster and it can be set in a way that it gets regular displayed or gets inversed displayed like on the picture shown here.

greetingz,

Thank you.

It appears that I have lost the ability to set the time function, and my clock is off an hour!

Did the tech somehow change the gallons to Imperial gallons when he set this to Rest Of World?

Do you have a sequence that can fix this?

I agree with Blando. It is easier to see on the track, or road driving. I had mine changed on the C32 and is is much easier to read. Downshifting on a track can sometimes leave you not quite so sure what gear you moved to, and the larger display is helpful. By the way, we speculate that ROW means rest of the world. Any other thoughts on that?
