Let's play NAME THIS PART..


Today was a lot colder (0 C) and when I started my car, I heard loud whining noise from the engine bay... This was after I finished install'n pair of replacement green filters.. So I poped the hood again and removed plastics and noise was coming from that part in the middle of the picture above..

So here are my questions .. WHat is the name of that part and does it supposed to make a noise like that on cold start?

That is the Secondary Air Injection Pump. It should sound kind of like a Dust Buster, but not too loud.

Thanks.. Yea it sounded like a vac machine.. Kinda reminded me of a computer fan.. Anyway.

Whats the purpose of this parts? When do they come on / off?

Secondary Air Injection pump
Purpose:
To warm up the three way catalyst.

Parameters:
Coolant temp between ~+10 and 60*C

Not @ Wot

<3000 RPM

Max run time up to ~150 secs

I wish I could figure out how to do this without getting a Check Engine Light. I assume it requires programming of the ECU.

Eleventeen, I read on the Crossfireforum that you can replace it with a resistor to fool the ECU and not get a CEL. Dont know what size. Maybe just use an ohm meter and find out what it drops across the connector and then match that.
