My CEL went away???

I had a CEL all this week from a bad cat and now my CEL is not on anymore? Anyone ever have this happen. BTW I'm having my primary cats replaced with Random Tech. 300 cell 4 inch cats. From what I was told these 300 cell 4 inch cats flow better than 200 cell cat because of the length. I was told to expect 10hp gain.. we will see.

I've never heard of a 300 cell cat out flowing a 200 cell, do they have any proof to substantiate that claim? Make sure that someone isn't just telling you that to sell you different cats.

Also, MAKE SURE they are metal core cats, Ceramic cats can't handle the heat when used as "header hugger" cats, downstream ceramic cores are ok but not when they are that close to the headers, they will melt much quicker than metal cores since they can't handle as much head as the metal core cats can.

By the way, what did you do to your secondaries? are they still in place or did you delete them? If you haven't done anything to them, you will have to in order to gain full benefit from upgrading the primaries.

hope that helps.

Hooley just remove your primarys and try to get kleemann cats. Then just send the ecu to kleemann and they will fix the problem with the cel going on due to not having the correct reading from the o2s. You really don't need the second o2s, there just for emision purposes once again the second set of o2s not the first set those are used for correct readings for the ecu but those don't get affected, those are b/f the cats. As for the 300cells flowing better than 200 cell it sounds a bit weird. It really doesn't make sense.

This is from Random Tech's website

"Obviously, the bricks within a converter create the major resistance to exhaust flow. Over the years, various brick densities have been used, with the most common now being 300 and 400 cells per square inch. All other dimensions being equal, converters with 100- or 200-cell densities offer improved air flow capacity, but reduced emissions control efficiency. In many cases, it's necessary to significantly lengthen a 100 cell converter to achieve the necessary levels of pollutant control. That additional length reduces flow capacity, so it's possible to end up with a 100-cell converter that does not flow as well as a 300-cell model."

I will be sure to dyno after the install Friday to see for myself. Win, loose or draw i will post any results.

Hooley, What were the codes that were being thrown on your CEL? In my experience, CELs caused by fuel trim (the p17x codes) will go away after a few days because the CEL comes on when a certain threshold is exceeded.

the code was P0422. Anyone have this code before? I just got my cats chopped out. Should be finished Friday. Hope it wasn't just an o2 sensor.

Hoolyboy, I still get an occasional CEL P0334, crank postion sensor. If I dont clear it with the ODB reader it will clear itself after I start the car about the third time. I am thinking that the ECU sees it starting okay for some number of times(3?) and clears it.

If you cat CEL was due to the delta between the primary cat and secondary cat it may have cleared itself if the delta is back to normal.
