Throttle Body Upgrade?

Hello everyone,
I was just wondering why no vendors are jumping on the bored out throttle body idea? The 55k motors gain up to 30 whp from this upgrade.. I would think our motors would benefit from it as well.. Obviously just guessing but it would be interesting to see what numbers it would pull.. Also has anyone been watching the crossfire forums recently? A member over there might have found a solution for the lean conditions with high boost.. Looks very interesting.. I wonder if we would be able to do the same thing as them?

Thanks,
Jm

What car do you have C55 or C32? I think AMS has a throttle body coming out.

The C32 has the same size TB as the S/C E55. On the E55, it is a bottle neck and you can see 15+ whp. On our cars, it is not and would only see minimal gains unless you are extremely extremely modded. Even then, maybe only 5-10 max

Early C32 TBs can be bored out from 74 mm to 76 mm. IMHO, on C32 that would probably be worth 5-10RWHP. Going with 80 mm TB will work and will add another 5-10RWHP.

I'm guessing you can use the Sl55 TB, some of them have 80mm stock.

What options do we have for the C55? All larger bore tb's that I have seen are for the FI 55 engine and will not fit the NA 55 engine. I think 80mm tb on the C55 should produce some nice gains.

So adding an 80mm AMG TB will *definitely* fit a C32, and will (likely) add anywhere from 10-20 RWHP? If so, I'm surprised no one's done this yet - IMHO, this would be worth doing before any internal work like P&P or cams

I'm guessing the 80mm TB that comes on some SL55's would fit the C32/STR6/SLK32. Alot of E55 guys have done this 80mm swap. I would also think you would need a retune after adding a new bigger TB.

As for the C55 you are kinda SOL. You could take the stock one and see it you can mod that... Or in a long shot, Maybe the 63 cars TB would work, even though its a different engine than the m113 N/A the throttle body is in the same spot (back of the motor) I doubt it will wire up and work though.

I thought no one ever did it because it didn't give much bang for buck on our cars unless you were pretty much out of other mods to do.

Not as much bang for the buck when compared to a pulley and/or tune, true. Cams are approximately a $2,500 mod though (P&L) - I'd strongly consider the 80mm TB first, if it yields 10-20 RWHP/RWTQ (IMHO) Yet I don't know of anyone who's pursued this, and there are a handful of M112K's running around with aftermarket cams

Very early 2003 MY SL55s in Europe had 80 mm TB and no bypass valve. I am yet to see it on a US SL55 with it. I have in the shop right now 02/03 production SL55 and it had 74 mm TB stock.

To make 80 mm work on C32 a new housing will need to be made and that means $$$. The same applies to C55.

I just look at Kleemann SC setup and again it becomes cost prohibitive.

I'm not 100% sure but AMS is coming with a C32 and I think a C55 throttle body. Maybe AMS can chime in

I suppose $1000-1500. Might as well go with a camshaft

Our C32 throttle body prototype is complete, if you want to be a dyno tester let us know. The 80mm TB housing is pretty huge and it most likely won't mate up nicely (especially on M112) but our C32 TB is perfect fit. if interested PM/Email.

stock is 68mm, ours is bored to 74mm for the M112. M113 we are going to have to machine a whole new body which is more time consuming so it won't be out for some time. Thanks

Is this strictly for the m112K or for the NA m112 also?

Lucky for you its for all M112s .

For the NA M112 C320 only we will add two new performance packages, stage 4 and stage 4+ (the most aggressive setup possible on the NA C320s). More details will be released soon. thanks

Out of curiosity, how much would the "most agressive setup" for the c320 cost? I got a 02 c32 and an 01 C320 with 70k.
