it depends how aggressive your offset is, and also what kinda tires you are using.

I'm riding a 235/35/19 front, Falken FK451 (19x8.5) and a
265/30/19 rear, Falken FK452 (19x9.5).

doesn't rub at all. even with a full load.

I have the same set up with a 35mm ET on all four rims.
But, had to bump up to the next shim taller in the rear to avoid rear tire rubbing on a full load.

I also had my rear fenders rolled so I still have room for a 275 x 30 x 19s.

true, that is why i am now looking for 9.5in wide wheels for the rear. i think the tire being too wide for the wheel is compressing the tire a little making it taller than it should be.

yeap, its true, a curved sidewall tire would be better than a boxy sidewall tire. I was running the same setup on my coupe, dumped on tein basics, if that didn't rub, i'm sure it won't rub on the C55.

One issue I had when I installed was, I need shorter bolts in the back, the bolts were too long, and it started hitting the parking brake. it was quite annoying.

i mean, i think it'll fit and that other members on here have done it... but like someone else said, it depends on what u have in the backseat an if the rubber is too close, then u might "bottom out" or have rubbing on bumps... right?

the best source is to hear from ppl with 40 an gauge their experience...

Some cautious words if changing profiles, change all four. For some reason, and I don't remember all of the details, but I ended up with 225/40R18s in the front and 245/40R18s in the rear. As the stock rears are 245/35R18s, this caused a difference in the axle rotation differential between the front and rear. I didn't realize the impact until a took a trip soon thereafter and attempted to use cruise control. At speeds under 40 mph, the cc would work most of the time, but never worked at highway speeds. Dealer confirmed that the computer was picking up a difference in axle rotation and would not engage cruise control...

Changing the front tires to 225/45R18s resolved the difference between the axles, but now my speedo is off by about 4%.

I believe the reason was because I wanted some M+S tires as I drove in the snow a bit this last year, and I couldn't find any in a 35 profile for the rears...

Moral here is to simply be aware of the overall diameters of your fronts and rears. The car is almost too smart.

I had 275 bridgestones in the rear and they rubbed with or without a load. With the load its rubbed so much that the fenders scraped the lettering off the sidewall of the tire.

I switched to 255 Pirelli p zeros and the no more rubbing but the pirellis wear out to fast.

I have a 40 profile front and back with no problems.

There was some slight rubbage... just enough that there is part of the wheel well in front that is slightly shinier than the rest of the area...

Again, no longer on the car, not going back on the car!!!

RLx02, what color is yours? we have almost the same exact mods lol... don't you love the HID fogs? and i get compliments on the TSWs all the time. i'm also happy with the 5.5 AMG badge

back to the tires... my setup is 235/35/19 and 265/35/19... sits low in the back, BUT no rubbing problems...

Mine is black. After some digging around, I found out that the 2 previous owners of my car used to post here! Anyways, I actually the HID fog light kit in the box still because I haven't got around to try to install it or have someone install it. My tech buddy has been busy of late so no help there. I have a V8 badge on the fender along with the 5.5amg badge, I think its kinda redundant so I'm debating on taking the v8 one off and redoing the 5.5amg badge.

I'm actually running 265/30/19's in the rear while the fronts are 245/35/19. The guys at the tire shop said the rears were skinnier because of the staggered set up though....and yeah, no rubbing here as well.

yeah i would agree on the badge redundancy... i think the 5.5 badge gets the job done... i mean there's no mistaking a 5.5L as being a 4 or 6 cylinder on our cars... lol

i bet the techs recommended the "shorter" rubber height on the rears to have more of a gap between the tire and the inside of the wheel well... mine looks like a smaller gap but like i sad, short of the one trip when i took some heavy relatives in the backseat, haven't had an issue!

Bumping an old thread! I am keeping my factory wheels and going with Continental Extreme Contact DW 255/35/18 rear and 235/40/18 front. That seemed to be the best tire size reccomendation I could get from this thread.
