Tires sizes C55
What is the widest tire I can put on OEM C55 wheels? Visually it looks like a another 10 mm both front and rear (235/255) would be okay. If so, what's the best tire to move to?

Im going to second this question.
Being new to car tires: wouldn't a wider tire give better off-the-line grip? Can we even go any wider with the stock rim/setup?

235's fit up front and 255's fit in the rear. you could even go 265 and possibly 275 in the rear if you wanted
Remember wider tires weigh more and in the worst place to add weight

mmm so its better off just getting a new set of 245/35ZR18s, just in a tire that dosent suck like the Continentals?
Or does a slight increase in size make up for the slight increase in weight

The Conti's suck for sure, Had them and hated them. I ran 255 on my stock wheel and I didnt notice any power loss. I bet a dyno would have shown a bit of power loss though.
I wouldnt go bigger than 255's in the rear on the stock wheel, but thats just me.

I would suggest 265/30-18s or even better 275/30-18s (rear), they should fit nicely.

The car currently has Pirelli PZero. These come in a 255/35/18 and 245/40/18 and would add about 8lb of extra weight.

Width, profile, and construction all factor into weight, but just because it is wider, doesn't mean it is heavier.

yes.
but now that i think of it, 265s are too wide for a 8.5in wide wheel thus why i am now looking to get aftermarket 9.5in wide wheels in the rear now. i'll take a pic of what 265s look like on a stock 8.5 tomorrow. 255s i think is the way to go with stock wheels.

the tires are much better than the stock continentals i had on the car before. i am loving them in the rain ![naughty](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/naughty.gif)
here are some crappy pics i took to try and show how they extend over the lip of the wheel. i think they have a rim guard, but they protrude more than there supposed to due to being too wide for the wheel
