Angry Unbelievable bad luck

So some of you will recall a month or so ago when I discovered that my rear bumper had been cracked while in the parking lot at work, and since then I have taken to parking my car on the street to stay away from the inept drivers that apparently work with me.

This plan had been working fine until today.

I'm on my way to court with my partner when I notice that there's a backhoe operating close to where I parked my personal car. So as I'm driving past I look back to check that my car is fine, at which point I see that the backhoe has somehow ripped a chunk out of my front bumper.

Needless to say I was seething, jumped out of the car and went over to them, stopped them all from working and asked what had happened to my car. At first they wanted to play dumb, but eventually they say that at some point while they were ripping up the street (which is on a hill) the backhoe lurched backwards and it's right stabilizing arm hit my bumper.

I have to say that it was definitely useful to be in full uniform, I don't know if a civilian would have gotten to the bottom of things so quickly. Anyway, the foreman shows up, I get an accident report done, and he gives me the contact info for the contractors so we can settle up once I get an estimate.

Just wanted to blow off some steam, here are the pics of the damage. Seriously though, I'm starting to think that nowhere is safe to park where I work.

See, you need to look at the bright side. Your insurance is going to buy you a nice new Brabus front bumper.
Seriously though, that is a kick in the *** to have that happen twice in such a short period. Front and rear no less....

Yeah, I'm glad I saw them when I did, because from start to finish the job they were doing took 2 hours, and if I hadn't have "caught them in the act" so to speak, I have no doubt that I would have come out to my car several hours later to the same damage, and absolutely no idea how/when it happened, and no way to get the money.

Thanks to everyone for the sympathy. I'll keep you updated on the repairs, should go into the body shop early next week.

The ones for sale are for the 32 though. 55s have the CLK style bumper and it won't work as far as I know.

Sorry to hear about that - sickening. I agree with WaveyKat - go for the CLK 63 bumper upgrade.

get your estimate from the dealer. they will of course use their rates and full retail price for part. then find a good private body shop to do the work. they can usually do the work for much less and you may be able to get both the front and rear fixed.

At least you caught them. When I had my Audi I was parked right in front of the hospital where there are camera's. I parked on an end spot way over so if anyone even parked on the line or a bit over it their door would of never hit mine if they snapped it open.

So I am walking out with the wife and she say's holy sH** look at your car. Someone had backed into it and caved the whole trunk in. I went right into the security guard let him know and he said he would review the footage. Well after they never called me I was like wtf and called. They said sorry didn't catch anything in camera. I was like ya right what employee of the hospital hit may car to myself. So needless to say I had to file a claim against my own insurance.

In your case it will not effect your rates and you get a brand new bumper so all is good. It will just suck being without the car while they take care of it.

Well, I got the estimate done by a friend of mine who owns a body shop, and the owner of the construction company is coming by with a check tomorrow. I told my guy to include money for car rental in the estimate, so hopefully it won't be too painful a process. I'm hopeful that it'll all be done by the end of next week.

I'll post pictures of the car when I get it back.

Funnily enough, something similar happened to my Dad, who is actually a doctor. He parked his motorbike in the hospital parking lot, and when he came out at the end of the day his bike was about 10 feet away from where he parked it, on its side. The cameras they had in the parking lot genuinely didn't happen to cover the particular area where he was hit, and the bike ended up being a total loss.

I've always made fun of him that he's the only person I know thats ever totalled a bike just by parking it
