The engine cooling system and heat exchanger both source coolant from the stock overflow bottle. To separate the systems, you purchase a coolant over flow bottle and remove the line from the bottom of the stock tank that goes to the radiator. With the system separated, I can beat on the car for hours and the coolant in the stock tank is cool to the touch.

Ahhh ok, I knew about that mod but I still thought it was all linked and the added overflow was just to add "volume" to the system. Guess I need to take a closer look at that setup. Thanks ImportLabSRT!
