True Dual Exhaust

Yesterday we used 2.5" piping and replaced the Y'd rear section from the second CATS back to the AMG mufflers.
The new 2 in, 2 out Magna-flow resonator has an internal cross-over X, and surprisingly the car is now a little quieter.

X's typically do result in a slightly quieter exhaust, if you're not changing anything else, but it really depends how restrictive the section is that you're replacing. Has anyone ever cut apart the stock resonator to check out the internals?

Are you running the magnaflow muffler (not the same as a resonator by the looks of it) PLUS the 2 AMG mufflers out back? 3 mufflers plus your stock resonators, no wonder its quieter. Lob off the back mufflers and put different tips on and then it should sound pretty sweet.

Great job!

Your exhaust shop came around the sway bar nicely. This is a major headache when doing a true dual exhaust on our chassis.

I have the same setup and the car is too loud for my taste. Do you have the part number on the magnaflow resonator?

You couldn't post this in a better time. Thanks for sharing.

Looks like he removed the stock single-in/-out resonator, replaced it with the dual-in/-out muffler (used as a resonator), and kept the stock mufflers.

I sent PM's to those who wanted to know more...

That's no muffler, it's a SS perforated X-Pipe with a large resonator shell wrapped around it.

I never saw anything internally like it before.

The Central NJ shop that we work with originated the complete one source 4" exhaust systems for camaro & firebird street cars.

They also design, build and sometimes private label products for others vendors who add $$ and then sell them to the general public.

Same as Denny has always billed for his work.

No additional "Mercedes Value Added Tax".

Sorry Guys,

I forgot to mention that poking a light into the "Y" that comes off the secondary CATS showed mine necked down to about 2.35" + - inside.

The new Dual 2.5"'s have got to double the flow to the back half of my C55 exhaust system.

Bringing this thread back to life...

I have a Dual 2"/2" Magna-flow Resonator w/ an integrated X for those wanting to upgrade to this setup (exactly like pictured above).

$100 shipped anywhere in the States if anyone is interested. Thanks.
