Single Xenon bulb replacement?

Can't be too tough? One of mine is pinking out and I can't shell out right now for DEPOs and a HID kit (... and fog light replacements and LED parking lights and...)

Also, how can I check equipment codes to see if I have D2R or D2S bulbs?

TIA

Buy after market bulbs from like a Carlab if they are still around go with 8k brightness it works great. As for the type take out the faulty one and read what it says...not a hard job to do it is an easy DIY.

I can't seem to find Carlab (Carlabs?) anymore, but http://www.intensehid.com/d2c.html seems like a decent replacement, and they've got some pretty stellar ratings on all the online store ranking sites. $50 for a pair of 10kKs is awesome too

Does it actually say on the bulbs? Don't have the car with me tonight, otherwise I would have checked. Just the same as a halogen bulb replacement but with a diff bulb, right, no crazy wiring?

That rocks, thank you! I've seen about four links to that site but each one hasn't worked for me until this one, heh

No on the 10k bulbs way to bright they look purpleish from a distance or even up close yes I believe it was Carlabs which is another place..I don't recall if bulb has type written on it.

I have a pair of new OEM Osram D2R's if your interested.

Well, the stockers are 8k, right? They are WAY more than bright enough, and I would imagine that aftermarket ones are even brighter than OEM, matching color for color. I'm just a fan of the deep blue/purplish color, TBH, and I'll be upgrading my fogs soon anyway, so...

I ordered some 10Ks already, but I'll PM ya if they're not bright enough, or if the color sucks through the stupid, stupid, STUPID frosted lenses /grumble

Stock is 4100-4300ish, IIRC. That's a fairly "white" light output, and around the highest lumens you'll get. Some don't mind the compromise going to a 6k bulb (Philips Ultinon used to be mentioned quite a bit) for a bit "bluer" light, at the expense of some lumens. From there, it starts to drop off fairly quickly... 8k IMHO is borderline, and anything over 10k is basically worthless (think "blacklight for headlights").

I've stuck with OEM, even when changing bulbs, because you won't/can't really get better from a performance standpoint. YMMV.

That's your eyes playing tricks on you, friend. Trust me, you mean way too dim, not bright.

After reading what I wrote I meant to say 10k is way to purpleish I have 8k and put it up to 6k and mine were brighter and bluer in appearance.

So people know in the future...the kelvin rating is just to show what color it is, not the amount light it gives off. 4300k is like whitish yellow and 8k is basically blue.

if your have the frost lens oem bixenons you need d2r bulbs. If you have the clean lens oem projector bixenons then you need d2s. If you only need it temporily, then you can buy a set of chinese hid bulbs on ebay for $25. Oem is 4300k like other have said. If you want more of a pure white you can go with 5k or 6k. Do not go higher then 6k or you lose too much light.

I believe your can get the oem philip bulbs for $100 on ebay

Or on AutohausAZ for ~$95 a pop

I'm starting to think I'm going to regret buying 10K bulbs now

At least the bulb that *was* pink is back to a really deep blue and only flickering a tiny bit... Guess I have to stop dishing the Breast Cancer support pickup lines, though >_>

I Had 8K on my yamaha R6 (got the kit free from a friend) and it was worse then the stock halogens. Needless to say I swapped the kit for a 5K.

The OEM Osram bulbs i have are labeled 4100K. So if you dont like the 10K's you bought (which I suspect you wont) ill let them go for cheap.

OEM is always good, but $40 more for a brand name? Ofc, charging more for OEM parts just b/c they're Mercedes-Benz is kinda what MB is all about ;-)

10k have LESS output. Stockers are 4300k.

10k are really ricer, and unsafe.

trust me there's a big difference between philips and osram bulbs then chinese bulbs. There's a reason why all the oems (mb, lexus, bmw, infiniti) use philips or osram when it comes to hid bulbs because there proven to last.

if your gonna get the cheap chinese bulbs i suggest you keep a back up set.

Keep in mind that I'll more than likely be replacing these with OEM Bi-X or DEPO + a quality HID kit in about three weeks, so I'll probably end up stuck with whatever bulbs I buy now anyway. Before/after pics to come when they show up, however, just to laugh at how ricey they might be
