Top Speed Discussion (and a note on gauges)
Hey guys,
In regards to the gauges, I just wanted to say I love having gauges that go up to 200... love the look and especially the IDEA of it not sure if C32 have the same gauges, but I just wanted to put it out there.
It's cool that a lot of w203 drivers track their cars, post their times, dynos, etc. but we hardly discuss our top speeds on the road (not the track) and the stories that go with them. I'm sure lots of us gotta have some great stories to share...
For example, about 6 months ago I was coming back from Philly and encountered a new white M3 and I kinda pulled up next to him and then took off... 30 seconds lighter, he comes flying and closes the gap , but doesn't pass me. anyways, the guy pulls up, gives me a nod, and we both take off, riding together at 120+. within 5 minutes, we pass a black CLK55 just a couple miles inside the MD border, and the 3 of us cruise together very, very fast, zipping through traffic for the next 40-45 miles before i pulled off in baltimore. it was alot of fun and an absolute thrill ride, as i hit my top speed ever (137 on some worn tires... which was idiotic but really a thrill-of-the-moment type of thing) in this one strip when i was catching up to the M3... that day I gained a whole new level of confidence in my car and what it can do and how to do it...
what a fun day

Besides- I would hope that most in here are mature enough not to drive like a jag-off on public streets anyway. I did my fare share of stupid things behind the wheel when I was a young punk, but since then I've grown up a bit.

Most don't post stories because they get flamed and the mob comes out with their torches and pitchforks. As stated above, everyone is assumed to be full of it or some suicidal "punk" with a death wish. I think that's unfortunate, but stories like that are best told over a cold one or over in the kill stories section.....

wait....137 is where the limiter is?
Sad....but I agree with the aboves-on all the forums I've been on-public racing is frowned on heavily-and I kinda agree-I'm in the middle of nowhere-but still take everything to the track.....

gotcha...thats what I thought-I think there is a speed limiter (based on speed sensor input) and a secondary rev/over rev limiter-both would need to be removed for ventures into retard-om fast speeds.

I have absolutely no doubt the Kleemann claims it will achieve 186mph are true... my ***** and sense are not attuned to midwest highways...you cali boys that have nice concrete flat roads are not plagued with snowplowed ...murdered highways like we have in the midwest.

Amen. Once in a blue moon at 3AM or something I'll go for a blast down one of the less torn up sections, but after getting almost fully sideways at ~130 on what looked like flat, dry, straight pavement, I now tend to give those urges a swift kick in the ***** when they come around.

that said, i don't plan on doing that type of thing again, just too risky with so many bad drivers on the road, cops, etc... life's too precious, right? but for what it's worth, it was a fun memory.
thanks for the feedback guys. drive safe, post often

That's how people in Korea drives.. We don't have hwy patrol / trooper.. We only have speed cams.... It's insane.... People speeds like maniacs, switching lane, then slams on brakes when they are near or sees a speed cam (It's hard to miss it and NAV does a great job alert'n driver in advance)..
C55 was pretty stable at highspeed.. My speedo read 160 in top of the 4th gear..I have to post some vids of me crusin at highspeed with Murci, M3 CSL, SLK55s and other many extoics!!

Speeds
We just do not have the kind of roads to do those sort of speeds very often here, just too hilly. I have to save that for the track but the straights are relatively short. Ugh!
I do know that the times I pushed the C32 and the old C36 before it, that even well into triple digits, they both felt very planted and not at all scary. I had the C36 up to 145mph a couple of times on closed courses and it was still in 4th and pulling hard but I ran outta room. I've never been where I could take the C32 that fast safely. I will tell you that 140 in an AMG feels safer than 90 in my old Oldsmobile, lol. Still, I would love to get out on one of them 60 mile long deserted western roads that is flat and straight and empty for just a little while, lol.
