This is just a guess on my part, but I'd imagine the complete job at an MB dealership will be in the ballpark of $2,500-3,000. If you can find a competent indy shop to handle the labor and source the parts yourself from online merchants, you can likely knock that number down significantly.

Check the classifieds, there is a member who works at a dealership that can get you a stock one in the 800 dollar range.

I think C3P made a newer version of the intercooler that fits perfectly. I looked into it yesterday, but I don't think the gains are worth the 1 year warranty and installation warranty that MB dealers give.
I bought my current intercooler from Erick in August, who used to work with LET and he said it had only 4k miles on it. I put about 5k on it and now it's leaking. Most people get a leaking IC after 60k miles or so. I am pretty sure he knew it was bad from the start.

Check these threads on the CF forum. Someone there just recently bought a Code3 IC with that same assumption:

Leaking coolant can also go into the transmission and other places so I would not jump to the conclusion your IC is bad. Pretty easy to tell the IC is leaking by taking a surge tank cover off.
