Ooops, Broke my blower
Yeah............... I think I broke a new AMG supercharger. Luckily it comes with a 1 year warranty. All I know is the blower is making a loud chattering sound. We always thought it was noisy from day one but now its loud.
The supercharger sounded kinda like a broken CV joint. Or even like the supercharger has no oil maybe more like a clack-clack-clack sound when its running.....
This will change my plan of attack for sure.. Might as well do a new throttle body if the supercharger has to come off and address some more cooling mods.
My safety nets we had in place came in real useful. I was able to pull the fuse on the supercharger and completely shut it off so it still can be driven.

Could it be the bearing perhaps? The same bearing that everyone complains about having to change on the C32/E55 supercharger due to the noise??

the bearing we complains about is on the clutch. hooley has his full time engaged, so that bearing doesn't even spin at all. I think it might be one of the four bearing for the twin screws.

What sucks about this whole thing is... Who pays the labor? The guys at the shop I use I'm sure will help me out.. But its not there fault nor is it even mine. It just seems like a bad part. So I know i'll be eating something when its all said and done. I even called MB and asked if the supercharger needed to be oiled and I was told it was ready to go and could be installed.
I also am feeling a lack of oil in the blower.

I know I sell supercharger oil so I am guessing it is used at some time or another. Was the charger bought from a MB dealer? Warranty on it might be hard to pull off if it's on a modified vehicle. MB requires this type of parts warranty done through their own service dept once they see the C55 .........

The car inst nessecarly down, But rather than wait for the clanking around to get worse I might as well nip this in the bud and do it now. But yeah I would have thought it would have lasted more than a month or two.

I doubt it is either, too early. Anyways here is the part# for the supercharger oil. I don't know if this is for your specific S/C I am sure they are all the same though. I can look more into it for you though.

Yeah I thought it was a lifetime oil too. Seems strange they would have an oil part number for it. Does anyone have pics of one of these superchargers opened up?

there's probably a oil part number for people that need to rebuild the supercharger. My car's a 02 and still on the original supercharger with no rebuild, so there pretty much designed to last.
Only issue was someone on the srt6 forums who rebuilt his and said the telfon on the twin screw was coming off but he also ran nitrous, so it more then likely caused by the nitrous.

SC failure
Man that sucks. If I remember right, you even made an underdrive pulley so they you did not over boost the stock C55 engine. So you SC should have been turning lower rpms than even a stock E55 unit, let along all of the over driven units running around. I have heard of hi mileage units failing but for a new unit to fail that quick, I would suspect either no oil, not enough oil or the wrong oil in the unit. I'm glad it is under warranty and that you caught it before it fragged and damaged the engine or the SC housing.
A clue is that you said it was louder from day one. I would put money on it not having oil in it. Just my 2 cents.

After reviewing my paper work I guess I bought a New "refurbished" supercharger from the Dealer. When I read that I was like" Well that explains it" I will have a new blower in this week. The parts guys at my local dealer are really good guys and they will take care of me.
IF anyone is wondering My car makes 180whp with the supercharger off. Let me tell you its a total rocketship.
I spoke with my guys at the shop and this is opening up some doors abit sooner then I wanted. I'm actually kinda excited about this. It going to comeback better and faster than ever. The only thing i'm dreading and you may have guessed....Its back to the mini van for a while. Oh how i love the Bang Bus.
