Hot off the Presses
Anyway, maybe our Next C32 or C55 will be hybrid??? Check this out today from Autoweek:
Daimler AG has acquired an equity stake of nearly 10 percent of California electric car maker Tesla Motors Inc., the German automaker said Tuesday. The two companies have been working together to integrate Tesla's lithium-ion battery packs and charging electronics into the first 1,000 units of... *** Personally, I'd love the torque of an electric motor to get the *** end off the strip and get er going (plus it s a more controlled torque too). WE can call it the AMG Pious!!!!
Have you been reading the newz? (no pun intended) BUT with the way Congress is pushing for high fuel mileage and emissions, these two may be synonymous with performance!!! MBs have traditionally been "heavy" cars anyway, so the extra jolt of another 50-100 HP from an electric motor surely can't hurt and with the LiOn technology getting better daily, I can see a future AMG with a battery pack!!! Its coming, just a matter of when?? The new 2010 ML 450 is hybridized and its supposed to be quicker off the line than my ML 55???

Displacement is going to have to head downwards. I drive a 1.4l Golf at work that averages the proposed 35 mpg in mostly motorway driving. While it's not a bad car, it's quite a bit slower than the C55.
If it goes through the states will become a lot like Ireland. There's signficant registration fees and taxes on anything over 2 liters, not to mention fuel prices. Small and light will be the rule, though those willing to pay will have the flash cars. I haven't seen a single C32, C55 or C63 in the last year, though there's a fair number of M3, M5 and M6s running around for some reason.
Somehow or other I can't see it happening, it's too much too soon.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG

I'm so moving to Canadia soon....so moving.
Counselor, they will do it very slowly, so slowly you won't even know what hit you until you walk into the dealership in 2016 and the largest car there is a Yaris!!! 0-60, can you say 15 seconds or more???
A lil history here. I had a 69 Trans Am, great car for its time, quick and fast and unreliable. Had the Ram Air engine!! When the mid-70s rolled around, we thought we had seen the end of quick/fast cars like the Hemis, 454, 455, 426, 396, 340, 383 etc etc...............................the Vegas,Pintos, Gremlins, Pacers and Mavericks ruled the day. Anyone remember the Mustang II. What a junk-a-clunk that was!!
NOW, the cars built today will romp on virtually any car made then and they are reliable, get great gas mileage and start without ether!!
I can see some changes, BUT the performance car market will always be here. Like was said above, compressed engines, smaller in displacement with just as much HP and lighter weight. It wont go away, it'll just be different. Turbos and superchargers will rule the day. Our C32s were just ahead of their time!!!

Makes me think of Ford in the middle and Chrysler and GM to the left and right!!!
MB is allegedly working on a 450 plus HP engine with a Kompressed V-6 (turbo one too) for C and E Klasses and a turbo 4 over 300 HP??? There is light at the end of the tunnel and its not a train!!! MB wont let this market go away, there's too much prestige (i.e. $$$) to be had!!

I've heard similer reports from Motorauthority and Autoblog. Specifically in regards to the next AMG SLK - that it will possibly have a TT 6 with 480 HP. I would think we won't have to wait too long to find out though. I hope you're right that there's light at the end of the tunnel as some of the crap I'm reading is depressing and makes my want to go pick up a 63 just in spite....
The potential of power is 10 fold where we are going when taking full electrical engine technology. Power and speed is not what I’m worried about loosing, it’s the nostalgic feel of a powerful V8 thrusting around the engine compartment letting you know it’s in there and working its *** off to please you.
