Intercoolers....upgrade?

was bored and doing some searching for random car parts and came across a website dedicated to cooling stuff (frozenboost.com)

I think a lot can be gained from upgrading out intercooler. I remember many saying this was the weakpoint in our setup. I know code3 tried a intercooler upgrade setup that I believe failed from everyones viewpoint b/c nothing was improved after install, install was a PITA because of fitment issues, and the cost was high.....

anyone think one of these water/air ICs may fit or may be a good or suitable upgrade to our current IC?

Fitment issues would be the main issue I think. It would be great if we could do it somehow. This is above my skill level right now.

...hmm...or keep the stock IC and run this inline as a second IC? That would be pretty trick. Space is an obvious issue however.

I bought some stuff from this site(2 times), they are very organized, i payed online by credit card, they send me email about payments and the day after they shipped the items and they send email also directly about the tracking number, also their prices are the best, good deals with them.

Yep, SLR style intercoolers. Renntech offers it for an arm and a leg.

The intake is right there... look closely at the TB, it's a mushroom type filter molded into a scoop designed to take air from the back hood. Renntech did this on a SL55 and they had to use a hood scoop that imo looked like crap.

Anyway, if you are really into upgrading the IC, you need to contact Vadim to pick up where he left... He designed SLR style dual intercoolers for our cars back when they were worth something. Here is a couple of pics for your enlightment (all Vadim's property and credit). It's a shame it didn't get finished.

gotcha....

wow that is cool. i think i kinda remember this yrs ago....this must have been how he got to make 420whp or whatever on 91 with only a 178 pulley. interesting.

i'm sure temps are much cooler with two intercoolers at that location as well. but costs an arm and a leg? hmm...

Vadim fabricated a set for me.
He’s been working on them for a few months now. He went with a totally new design and they look nothing like what is in the photos. I saw them two weeks ago and not only do they look awesome; they are massive! They’re completed now; however he’s currently working on the finish and the intake setup. Stay tuned as he will be posting pics soon…

It's for the 55 and will fit both the E and SL models.

This type of cooler can be made for the 32. You just have to be the pioneer with some time, some money and lots patience.

Highly doubt it's for the 32. Even if it was, the price would most likely be staggering.

Once Vadim has completed the ones for the 55, then he might have a solution for the 32. Perhaps it's just building one that's a 1/4 smaller than the 55's, but it all comes down to fitment.

And about the price, it's not that staggering and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg.
