Red face I was an idiot! yes!! NEAR CLOSE to disaster!

...but thank god it didnt happen..close though..really close...

ok, so about half an hour ago, driving home from my buddies place..after drinkin brandy...BUT stayed for 2hours or so to sober up! so i wasnt DUI!
just to clear that out lol, i was perfectly sober by the time i drove home..anywho..

drivin on I-80E front West Sac, all alone on the freeway and decided to undress my beast in a black tuxedo! ;-]

so i gunned it, 65-100 in like no time at all...then i slowed down a bit because saw a couple of PoPo's on duty at some construction on the freeway...

then, went ahead and merged into Reno I-80E...and at that junction/exit
there is this nice...loop/ramp that goes for about 35Degree or so angle and its a 40mph curve that gets really tight in the middle...

so i decided..to gunn it again and see how good the handling of the AMG is...
BAD IDEA!
from 45-80 easily and increasing...and right when i was about to reach that tight curve, i knew the car wasnt going to be able to take it and i was going too damn fast...i let off the gas, didnt hit the brakes and just kept the front wheels spinning, turned the steering wheels nice and smooth, but the car was starting to understeer..DAMN! it was soo close...the car couldnt stay at its own lane, car moved over to the next lane, and ALMOST hit the rails! ALMOST...like 3ft away or so...at that time, the car slowed down enough to get better turning, and off i go...

SORRY for the long story!
but the moral of the story is, i tried it, because i usually do this and turn fact when im driving my fairlady Z..but the Z's suspension aint stock..and the wheels and tires are very accomodating, with 245/40 and 275/35 on 18's, takes that tight 40mph curve with no sweat...

so i wont be doing that again when driving the benzo for a while, until i get wider tires front and rear...and better suspension system...

DAMN im so glad the car didnt hit that rail...

An idiot i am? YEs!

this happened to me once when I first picked up the AMG, I was running the stock 18s, and on my coupe I had it dumped with bars+265s rear, I couldn't believe that my coupe handled way better than the C55

lol...wide rear tires has little to do with handling.

it's the sway bars.

stock 32 understeer a LOT, but you can fix it with better sway bars. the effect of getting coilover or springs/shocks on handling isn't as great as with adding sway bars.

Ive been playing with understeer and oversteer quite a bit at autocross since this is the first RWD car Ive owned.

The ABS and stability control actually do a pretty good job of keeping the front end from locking up and plowing into something while breaking. That and the weight will shift to the front wheels. Turning off ESP really only is partially off. You can disable all of it by putting the car in dyno mode, but I actually prefer having the ABS on when im pushing the car. Go back a little bit and watch the vid I posted; actually a pretty good example.

can't compare the 203 to the z33 chassi. z33's FM setup is far more superior for handling hands down. I rented a newer one before other than touchy throttle and plastic interior I absolutely love how it drives.

didn't pay attention that you have the z32 instead of the z33. I always thought the z32 was quite heavy as well tho? but it's helped by the 4-wheel steering. loved all Z tho except the Z31. LOL

btw, can you comment on the z32 in terms of handling vs the z33?

Oh whats not to love about the z31?
Love the t-tops and offset hood scoop.
Back in the day ppl got a lot of power out of them.
As a 12 year old the Z31 was my 2nd favorite car next to the 10th anniversary RX-7.

of all the Z's made, i can trully say, not just an ownder, but the Z32 body wether the Twin Turbo model or NA model, is the best Nissan sports car they ever brought to the US, its endless style, curvacious body, and the low stance, makes it very unique and stood out from many cars on the road at its time, EVEN today. The Z32 still turns head everywhere i go, for it being 16years old, its gets wayy more attention thatn the 350Z even the 370Z.

But anywho, about the handling. Both cars are HEAVY! both cars are in the 3000lbs bracket, although both cars have the power to back it up.
Now, as u mentioned the Z32 does come with the HICAS steering system on which i think is AWESOME! and the Z33's doesnt, which improves on traction, cornering, and good for tight curves, like mentioned in my story! haha

Mate that Z32's HICAS steering system, with a car made with no traction control, youll just remain planted on your seat and enjoy the ride.
The Z32 easily takes corners and such turns due to its low profile body, compared to the Z33 which is taller, bulkier.

Z33 also has the TCS, but you cannont fully turn it off like most cars, they still remain somewhat on? but thats an option if for GrandTouring Edition.

All in All i think that the BEST handling Z32 stock would definitely Steve Millen's limited edition SMZ version, and the Z33 limited Nismo Edition.

+10!

during the era when the japanese sport cars came out, RX-7(your body style Moose), Supra, NSX, 300ZX, 3000GT are all what japanese sports cars are suppose to be! Endless styled, and all are still being drooled over by many car enthusiast up to this day...the rise in gas prices really made the japs produce more efficient cars, and less and less stayed true when the sports car era came to be..

Toyota dropped its Supra, Acura dropped its NSX, Mazda produced an underpowered RX-8 and overpriced for that performance, to replace the RX-7 (big no no!), and Mitsubishi dropped its 3000Gt, and now sticks to the Eclipse :-/

Only Nissan kept it cool, and further out the Z Generation, and EVEN brought the R35 GTR in the US! BADASS!!(which im dreading to get one!...but i know will never happen )

But, what i loove about the Benzo's are...they really dont take into consideration about gas prices..they dont care, theyre Mercedes..lol
They just keep making their AMG engines bigger and bigger with a lot more horsepower!

I had a charcoal '90 ZX TT. I loved that car. I have to imagine it was one of the best handling stock production cars of all time. Especially back in 1990 that car was way ahead of its time. I only spun it one time and that was when I was on a closed course and was really trying to get the car to break loose. Bottom line, I wish I never sold it..
