Does your supercharger turn at idle?

I was doing some routine checkup and saw that my supercharger was turning slowly while at idle. When the engine is off, the clutch could be turned freely, so i kno it wasn't stuck. When the engine is running at idle, i unplugged the clutch connection to see and it was still spinning a bit. Is this normal at all, or is this a sign that the clutch is failing.

TIA!

Normal, no problem my friend

If it WASN'T spinning at idle, then you would have an issue

air is still passing the rotors so it will move them, thus making the clutch move as well. There is no boost though.

+1, boost on C32 starts at about 2800 RPM , on a Code III intake you'll hear the whine!!

On a Kleemann Autorotor, there is barely any perceptible whine though!!

Are you sure about this my friend

You are confusing when the clutch AUTOMATICLY engages, vs boost. You will/can have boost off idle if your foot is on the floor

Yep, boost is load dependent.

That's good to hear . I later did some test while at idle and revved up to 3000rpm and see no change in boost (stayed @ -7psi). While driving i also used a lower gear not under load @ 4000rpm and also see the boost @ -8psi. once i punch it, the boost comes up ...

thanks for the input guys!

I think he just left that out. so yeah boost will happen at a set RPM, but will also happen under a set load %

The supercharger isn't compressing air until the electromagnetic clutch engages. You can slowly throttle through an entire gear without any boost. After building a custom rear intake I can hear when the supercharger engages. Seems to be any past 15-20% throttle the clutch will engage...

Guys, my point is/was.

If you put your right foot to the floor at idle, the clucth WILL engage and you will have boost BELOW 2800. That's all.

Simply put, you CAN have boost below 2800 if you want it, aka pressing the gas pedal.

I am not trying to play lawyer her, as to tricking it, sneaking it up, etc, etc.

WHENEVER you mash the gas, the clutch will engage.

That is all

PS: How else do you think we can leave those lovely double rubber strips

BTW, the SC clutch will also engage on cold mornings for a few seconds as soon as you start the engine to clear ice from condensation. Not that rare for Canada's winters

MRAMG1, I wasn't disagreeing with you. Just trying to explain that the clutch isn't RPM controlled. It really depends on the amount of throttle, and yes a brake launch will engage the clutch, and give you boost off the line...
