Sears Point Raceway Trackday

I know... Sears Point Raceway is now referred to as Infineon Raceway. But it has always been SPR to me so...

Me and the C32 will be heading up to SPR for a trackday soon. Got my registration in with my club and will be heading up there in November. Hoping that the weather will cooperate. But what the heck! It never rains in California.

Some of you folks are wondering if this is my first session. Well, no it isn't. I have been on SPR many times. Also Laguna Seca and Thunderhill Raceway to many times to recall. But I have never been on the track with the MB.

I already have a feeling that it will be a heavy weight. Im not looking for a super agile sportscar which is what I have driven and raced before on the mentioned tracks. I guess you can say that I am settling with the C32. Never thought that I would need a multi-tasking car.

5 seats? Yes
Comfortable? Yes
Will my wife drive it? Yes
Fit a stroller in the trunk? Yes
Lots of HP for me? Yes

So, I am heading up to SPR with my single buds in their EVO's and Supra's. It should be fun. I hope the photographer is there! I would love a pic cresting Turn 2.

More to follow...

Pump your front tires up to about 38, drop the rears to 32, tighten your belts, and have some fun

Above all enjoy yourself, and be safe. Track days are a TON of fun. Just pain attention to the corner workers please. Their job IS impotant, and its nice to know if there is trouble ahead or some one on your AS_

Have fun

I wish I still lived in California, because I'd definitely participate! I've opentracked at all those venues, as well as Buttonwillow. It'd be interesting to try it in my C55 instead of the previous cars I've tracked (Mustangs, Vipers, Z06s, Porsches).

Thanks for the tips on tire pressures. I will use your suggestions as a reference point as I am not running stock wheels and tires.

Yes, it is a private club, Checkered Flag Racing Association. We rent the tracks for a day.

Unfortunately I am not stock... I am running with a set of HR springs and MB shocks. There is alot of rebound. I know the car gets unsettled on the street when I hit a rough set of asphalt. But when on the track I am hoping that things will be better. But the speeds will be quite a bit more aggressive.

I am also running on 19" wheels with Kuhmo Ecsta tires. Those seem to work quite well on the street. It will be interesting to see how they perform on the track. I really hope that they stay constant and not get too slippery after they get hot.

The best tires I ever ran on the track with were the Yoko A032R's. Yes, that was a tire generation or two ago. And I was running them on a 911. But they were noisy on the street. But so was my exhaust.

Keep in mind that I suggest those pressures as a STARTING point. ALL AMG's like EVERY other car exhibit a good amount of under steer when stock. So those pressure will help a little.

AS you are modified, I would STILL suggest them as a GOOD starting point.

On my C32, driving VERY hard chasing vettes

I ran 44 LF, 42 RF, 32 LR, and 30RR, on my fastest lap times, just for reference.

EVERY driver will have their own preference my friend.

HAVE fun and show them just what an AMG can do

Thanks for the tips. I will definitely give it a shot.

A little curious... based on your pressures, you were driving the track in a clockwise rotation?

AMG C43, 1999
Calspeed,

Would you mind another AMG C43/55 coming along. I am a current NASA licence holder and raced with the AFM - Superbikes for 10 years and was 2 time Formula Pacific Champion. Or AFM Champion in 1999 and 2000.

I run the with Group 4 on HDPE days and or events with NASA.

Would love to come. Let me know the date if possible

Thanks, Jeff, Speedybenz

This event is for members only. The racing club is Checkered Flag Racing Association. We rent the track for the day.

In order to attend you need to have a certain level of experience... and proof of experience.
