What car would you buy?
#26
I view the Mazda Miata as a pure chicks car (and SCCA poseurs too!!) , the SLK not so much!! I almost bought an SLK before the C32 and they are damned fast!!

Thats the car I am angling for, a 2010 with the P031 Package (Aka Performance Package PLUS) and LSD!! Woo hoo, 30-40 MORE HP than std C 63 and other mods to boot. Its like owning a DTM car without the price. The old P30 is being phased out with the LSD as a stand alone option for the C63.

I wasn't the one who called it a chicks car, but I do understand why some view it like one. Like I said, a SLK32 is a REAL AMG, so it's very fast.

I know, Phil, I dont know who did but the SLK can be made to go real fast, just like the C32 !! I view the Miata and the VW Cabrio as the ultimate chix car. Miata handled great BUT way way down on power!! Makes me sick when I see a guy driving one with the roll bars, anti-sways, gummy tires etc. My Neon ACR used to thrash on them all the time with its HP advantage.

Reminds me of some years back when I worked at a new car dealer. We had a Miata and two of the guys took it out and ran it against a full size Dodge van. The van left it for dead. Pathetic.

Does your wife really need 349bhp? I doubt it.
If she likes the C Class so much, trade the C32 in for a regular W203 and have some $ left over or buy her a C300 for 20k and get the AMG back!

OP, check out the Audis since you said the S was too big/heavy/slow. You'd still get 4 doors, euro, good aftermarket parts supply, respected, luxury...
320 dreamer, I meant no disrespect to you or your car so please don't take it as such. All in fun.

Back to topic. I agree the SLK32 is more of a chicks car. If you want the speed of the slk32 without the feminine looks, I'd go with the SRT-6 coupe. Or old out for the SLK55.

You have time. So take your time and look at everything that you think you might like. Enjoy the hunt.If you like your C32 you like small cars an the E class or S class is out of the Question. Do youself a favor and put the chik car bs aside and go find and drive a SLK32. I have both and the SLK32 is faster and more fun to drive. The C32 is a nicer allaround car.I have only had the SLK32 for about a month now but I'm haveing a blast with it. My wife will ride in this car,she didn't like to go in the Superformance Cobra that the SLK32 replaces. Good luck in your search. With the time you have you should be able to find some nice low milage cars I found my SLK32 with 4800 miles on it and the C32 with 11000 miles on it.

I don't think you could buy a Cayman S for $20k if it had a salvage title. I looked at 99-02 996 and there were so many that had "new $13k crate engine" it was ridiculous. Without spending $2k for a intermediate shaft bearing fix, a 996 is nothing more than a ticking bomb. I am an old time Porsche fan, but I'm afraid when Ferry Porsche died, the 911 did too. It's why a 1998 911 sells for $35k and a 1999 911 sells for $18k.

I do understand that. The different is that i have a SLK32 with 600 - 700
hp. And if you have 600 hp in the car and installing Cams, you have plenty more hp than 12 hp. I am not telling you what to do. If your were interested
how to make your car doing a 11.5 on the strip. I would
gladly tell you. No Nitrous. Not expencive.
But i think you already know this, how to do it.
Did you installed the LET185 mm Pulley by yourself ?

Nice interior, leather, sunroof, nav, etc... 6 speed tranny from the STI, bilstien suspension. Reliable, safe, fast, easy to work on, all the moddability of an impreza WRX or STI without the ricer image.
If you can find a used one they go for for just over 20k.
Subaru is my daily driver, benz is my beater.

Sorry I have to ask. What was your 60' on your 12.9 run? My 55 has ripped 107 traps. But always 13.5's. 2.1 60' Were you on drags?

Correction, 03-06 CL600 V12TT, 01-02s are the all motor 5.8 V12 with cylinder shutoff.
25k is not a bad budget, fastest thing I can think of would be a C5 Z06, heck even a C6 Corvette is coming close to that range now. great all out sports car but lacks the euro refined touch and space.
The XKR is a car that's actually either on par with the C32, If there is one thing I've read and seen is that the S Type R, XJR (LWB sedan) and XKR are pretty even. The XJR is a great sleeper (Jaguar XJ series also gets the least tickets as an article stated). The aftermarket for them is slim, there is a pulley mod but the gains aren't huge, a tuner in chicago called Eurotoys however is in process of making a Kenne Bell Twinscroll upgrade for the Jaguar 4.2 SC. For refinement, value and performance, the Jags are a great deal as the R cars are great value for the dollar, xenons, navi, heated seats, etc. on car that suffered from more depreciation hit than AMGs.
I read personal experiences from a enthusiast who had an S Type R and the car was quite reliable, C&D had a long term test on an XJR and had a great experience with that. It's another sleeper low low 13 second sedan and should do 12s with the pulley upgrade.
It would be better off to save another 5k on top of that 25k and get a 03+ W220 S600 or CL600 (both V12TT) or a 03+ E55(V8 SC). That will definitely put you up in the correct stepup from the C32 in grand fashion.
S600, S55, CL55, CL600, E55 can run in 30k range, makes more sense to save 5k more and get a "game changer". With ease they do 11s and I think the king of Sleepers (above the XJR) is the S600, nothing gives it away as a fast car, no quads or anything. Include the S55 in their too despite having quads many people still won't expect a XJR, S55 or S600 to track them down and pass them with ease.
Well, my wife wants my C32..she said I can just go and get something else..didn't matter what. I paid cash for the C32. By March I can have about $13k-$14k cash (big year end bonus, taxes and sell an old minivan I have)
I hate loans but do want to buld credit. So, I plan to get a $4k-8k loan. So, I can go up to +/-$20k. What could I get with that? I've looked a lot and after having this C32 kind of like higher end options (mercedes, BMW, Lexus, Acura, and Jaguar).
I can't just get another C32 (would be odd to have two of same model in driveway.) I like performance capability of SLK32...but feel limited a 2 seater and 'boxy' body (LOVE, LOVE S55 body styles).
I do not see me getting a lot quicker without spending at least $25k or more....do not want to go that far. (note costs include mod needs).
I love the Jaguar XKR, S_type R and XJR cars,,,but no real aftermarket options...which I need. No good pasth for solid HP numbers. My C32 now seems to exeed any potential for those others listed...that said an XKR coupe is a HOT looking car...
any other ideas? I looked at '04 E55...but just a bit out of price range..

Only a 2007 model and not many are out there, but if you can find one, I would think they would hit your price range

Well guys, I decided to just keep the C32 for myself..I'll just get the wife a nice 4 door AWD MB, Lexus, Audi or other. I've looked and looked and without going well past my top budget of $20k there just isn't anything that I see (that I'd want) that would be faster than the C32 (which I will add aftermarket exhaust manifolds and possibly low flow primary cats, while keeping resonator).
I can find the wife something nice that she'll really like for $15k (maybe less) so I'll save some money too).
Oh, my $.02 on the SLK...I don't think its a chick car...once you see one in person it looks a lot cooler and that 300lb weight advantage is a huge difference (not to mention there are a few more mod options). If the SLK is a chick car, then so is the crossfire...

and i think you meant high flow primary cats (less restriction)
