Changing Thermostat
Im thinking about swapping out my thermostat, with one that allows for better cooling. Ive just searched and read through about PTE and their thermostats. So they're basically a 180 instead of the stock 195. Would this work the same? http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/se...at,universal:0)
And is the 160 too cold?
Im a newb on this so feel free to school me

if you live in somewhere cold (which you dont), 160 can be too cold and throw CELs because the engine won't sufficiently warm.
IMHO, i think that the 180 tstat will be fine. keep in mind that what this does is open the thermostat sooner so your start your cooling process at a lower temperature. i think this works best in coordination with the -10 fan mod, upgraded heat exchanger, and split system so BOTH systems are cooler. this will not have the same effect as just an upgraded heat exchanger.
btw, the link doesnt work.

Ask PTE about this. Patrick is a real nice guy and I know he'd be able to answer your questions better than I ever could. Since I have a T-stat from him, I can tell you that he isn't just selling a modded T-stat, but the whole assembly. Here's an excerpt from an email he sent me when I was buying mine.
"The parts are in from Germany. I hand build these Thermostats in my small machine shop . Even though they are called 160* They actually bring the engine temp from 210*F / 100*C too about 180* F . The 160* one , which I don't build ,would set a CEL on cold nights."
Hope that helps a little. If you want, I could take a picture of it so you know what i mean by "assembly"

ya take a look at my thread haha, I got a CEL with the 180, But thats because i have all those other cooling mods, plus an additional cooler. (It was 42F out with the heater blasting full blast when the car was cold)

It has been my experience that anything under 180 degrees Fahrenheit will either throw a CEL and or cause the engine to run in warm up mode. AKA fuel enrichment. There is NOTHING to gain by running your car ANY colder than this.
A certain amount of heat IS required for proper operation of ANY engine. Carbed engines can run colder, but you also run the risk of destroying your engine from the oil NEVER getting hot enough to boil out any water that accumulates.

i have a supercooler, cm30 separted system and a 180 pte tstat. in my part of the country the am can be below freezing with many mornings now in the low 40's . no cels at all . the pte tstat is the best one on the market. many tstats are drilled holes in the flange. this is the real deal

Go with the PTE thermostat. The one you are linking to will not work...plus, would you really trust your AMG engine to an $11 aftermarket part?
