Next Project Car: C32 or C55 for High 11's on DR's
It will just be a fast modified daily driver.
Which platform is better bang for the buck and ease of modification, access to aftermarket parts: The C32 or the C55?
The C32 appears to be faster stock vs the C55.
The C32 already has a poweradder, so that's a plus in my book..... it's easier to up the boost, tweek the I/C / pump, and exhaust, tune to get to my goal.
The C55 has more displacement...... BUT I suspect is not power adder friendly due to high c/r. And I've read the C55 just doesn't respond to bolt-ons like the C32.
......
C32 to the 11's: Port/Polish Heads / Intake / Blower
Smaller pulley
Better I/C / Pump
Better Exhaust
Tune.
Will I need to upgrade fuel injectors? fuel lines? fuel pump?
Is there any wgt removal you can do to these cars to cut 100-400lbs to get to the 11's? without making it into a hooptie?
The Fox Chassis Mustangs can remove wgt below 2800lbs by removing sound deadening, chassis bracing behind doors, bumpers, behind dash, etc..... Prob not the ticket for a MB.
....
Alt option..... for just a little more $$ I could get a used E55 and get a pulley/tune........ is this the cheapest/quickest way to high 11's?

I don't think any C32's (even with spray) have achieved high 11's.
If you want a platform that'll go 12.000 or 11's, you'll probably need:
C55 w/ a blower or nitrous and every bolt-on
C32 w/ every bolt-on plus a reasonably large shot of nitrous.
Since they're lighter, you could also consider a SLK32 or SRT-6 and be right there with the most common mods (assuming a sedan isn't a requirement).
If you need a sedan, a w211 E55 might be a good choice - assuming it doesn't exceed your budget (they're pretty reasonable these days, for cars that originally cost +/- $90k). Stock, they're low 12's (a couple freak ones are high 11's). Some basic mods gets 'em to mid-11's.

I wonder if I'd be happy with mid-high 12's on a highly modified C32 or if I'd wish I would have ponied up for the E55.
With the pulley/exhaust/chip to make a C32 run high 12's...... will it run high 12's all day long..... or will it get heat soaked in traffic and run like a dog pretty quick. Keep in mind i"m in hot houston..... 90-100 Deg F Summers......
I run a blown mustang that heat soaks bad in the summer.... IAT's go up and the computer pulls timing and power goes way down after a full pulls or if I'm stuck in traffic.
I'm guessing I should find a clean 03 or 04 E55 and modify play with that.
I like the light wgt and smaller platform of the C32 though.
dragtimes lists 17 c32's with times from 12.8 to 12.3 so its very doable.
the e55 times are easily in the 11's but at a much higher cost. bottom line buy what you like the most

The only downside to a E is if you want that big of a car
I agree with everyone else; go for a E55 if you want big power. I was considering purchasing one before I got my C55 but I chose to get the C55 because its relatively uncomplicated motor/suspension and its a tad bit sportier to drive around the bends than a e55.
