Under 30% acceleration, even in W mode, the car shifts gears at almost 3k RPM. The car is stock. In the service history, the dealer replaced the TCU in '06. Is it possible that they did a poor job, or none at all, of doing the gear adaptation through star?

Here's the interesting thing. While accelerating, I can tap the shifter to the right, while it is in D mode, and I can get the trans to shift where it should be shifting for that much throttle, at about 2100-2500rpm

Nothing interesting there. Yes, you can sometimes "encourage" the car to shift earlier with a manual nudge.

What makes you think 3000k is too high of a shift point? Coming from a sports car background, I find the shift points far too low on the C32. The S/C does not even engage until 2700rpm under light load. Our cars do not have enough low-end torque to merit low shift points, unless you are driving like my grandmother and never top 30mph.

I use the 30 second "ECU reset" regularly, to clear the tranny adaptions and get cleaner, snappier shifts. Search it out in this forum and try it out.

Do you realize how little 20-30% throttle is? This is very light acceleration, above 2400rpm, their is practically no load on the engine anymore, yet it still goes on for another 500rpm before shifting.

This was a relative example, at 40-50%, it revs out to 5,000rpm!

Also I'm curious about getting a STAR adaptation because some of the off throttle downshifts are a little sloppy and then when getting back on the throttle, it's not as smooth as it could be IMO.

Yes, it's a little slower than my grandmother drove.

oh, i see she must have driven around at full throttle mostly

30% throttle accelerates faster than most traffic from stop lights

20-30% throttle? still too much...LOL

I barely use 15-20% in city driving. 17.4mpg avg. yes, I checked with my REV soft.

shift point depends on load as well as speed. that sounds perfectly normal.

Not good enough. I has to be "all" traffic.

WOT or go buy a Prius.

shifting at 3k with barely any load sounds perfectly normal?

He hasn't gotten that Prius yet.

symptoms sounded like when that happened to me a while back, e.g. tapping on the throttle very very lightly, my shiftpoints were at 3500 rpm. diagnose was a faulty transmission control module.

if i'm very very light on the throttle, maybe 5-10%, the car will shift at 2300-2600

that doesn't sound too bad. But if your concerned, hook up to star and see if anything pops up.
