Hi everyone!
Just joined mbworld today. Have been lurking for about a week or so and liked the site.
I have an 01 Audi S4 that has been quite reliable and nice and cheap to own barring a few, rare check engine lights typical to the marque . I am about 12 months away from replacing it and am doing some advanced scouting.
To be brutally honest, MB was never on my list in the past for one primary reason - it never/rarely ever offered a stick shift in its fun cars. But now that I am bit older and also since my weekend fun car is a stick shift, I think I am prepared to consider an automatic for the first time.
The top MB on my wish list is the C55 - it is very similarly sized to my Audi, - it is discreet, quick, fuel efficient, reliable, commute friendly and is an AMG to boot. The 03-04 E55 is a similarly priced, spacious rocketship but is more expensive to service and is perhaps a bit more needy compared to C55. At least that's what my initial research here is indicating.
Anyway - long story short ... just wanted to say hello and thanks for all the wonderful info on the website.

Welcome the B5 is a great car to start with.
If you have the modding bug, the C32 may be up your alley as it is FI and has a lot more aftermarket parts available for it. A C55 is more expensive to mod, more or less you will wind up with the same power level. The C55 handles better than a C32, but the C32 is more comfortable. C55 looks more modern (CLK front end) but drinks more gas (worse than B6 or B7 Audi S4) It think you will find the automatics in these cars are the best out there short of a DCT or twin clutch and you'll see why AMG never bothered going with a manual.

Its also fairly responsive to mods to...most people with k&n filters, removed secondary cats are running low 13's to high 12's.
Hope your researching goes well and welcome!

05 C55 AMG
Welcome.
The C55s are great cars and I have loved mine so far with only a few minor issues after a little over a year of owning it.
Although I do get that need for more power every now and then and I think about trading it in on an E55. But once I get it out in the twistys, all those thoughts go away. All in all its been a really good daily driver.
