H&R Coilovers INSTALLED
Well I decided to install the H&R CO and they are all that they are cracked up to be. Nearly stock ride comfort with much better handling performance characteristics.
When they were first installed, I fired up the engine and the warning sensors for the Brake Assist and ABS lit up on the computer dashboard. Evidently the drastic change in ride height caused the sensors to go haywire, but they must have recalibrated because after I drove it home and started the engine again, all the warning lights disappeared. Pheww...
The only thing that I don't like about the CO so far is that the rear height is way too low. Even with the CO adjusted to nearly the highest setting, the car looks slammed. Now I'm going to bring it back tomorrow and have my mechanic customize the OEM rubber bumper/stopper that was originally part of the spring system so that I can gain more ride height in back. The OEM rubber bumper couldn't be used with the CO without modification. Hopefully this will give me some clearance in the rear and he's going to set the threads to the maximum highest setting. This will (fingers-crossed) give me an inch more. Does anyone know if H&R provides a rubber bumper that works with this CO kit?
Other than these 2 issues (one of them self-corrected), the H&R CO system is exactly what I was looking for: Lower ride for sleeker look and much improved handling performance without sacrificing ride comfort.
I am really enjoying how the car handles now. Now I know Evosport says that with the CO's and their swaybars that it will out handle an M3, but I've driven an M3 and that is a completely different beast that handles amazingly. Does the CO's make my C32 M3-like? No. Does it handle better than stock OEM suspension? YES. However the M3 will NEVER EVER be as comfortable as the C32 w/ the H&R CO's. The understeer I often experienced with the OEM suspension has been tamed. It's almost like point-and-go... and this was on rain-drenched roads today!
I'll post some pics after I have the work done on it tomorrow to get the right ride height. Now time to go out and enjoy my rejuvenated C32 AMG!!!

Maybe Ben or Vadim from Evosport can answer this question for me:
In the rear for the CO, does the adjustment collar that controls ride height for the spring go on the top part of the assembly or on the bottom? My mechanic put it up top and obviously this makes it very difficult to adjust the ride height b/c the adjustment notches are blocked. I'm thinking that if he put the collar on the bottom of the spring assembly that I could also use the OEM rubber bumper without modification and make height adjustment much easier to do.
Thanks for the info.

it goes on top! and my H&R coilovers supplied the rubber mounts for my rear shocks. i don't get why yours doesn't. and i do have the EVOSPORT swaybars... and i still can't say that it will out handling the E46 M3. because i know that my E36 328 handles better then the setup that i have now. i had H&R coilovers and swaybars and struct bars for my bimmer.
but... improvement is imporvement... i do enjoy the ride in my C32! MUCH better than my bimmer.

Here's some pics. The car is dirty b/c it's been raining all week, but these pics will have to do for now. I had the ride height adjusted this morning and it's PERFECT!

Basically what you see is the highest setting. You can go MUCH lower if you'd like, but the streets in Chicago don't treat slammed cars too well.

I was searching the forum and found this thread. I have a similar problem with my H&R's. I think the rear is too low even though it's adjusted to one of the higher settings. I was wondering if anyone had a solution to the problem. I know when I installed the coilovers, there wasn't a rubber bumper that was supplied with the coilovers. I was hoping someone could clarify, or if anyone has had success modifying the stock spring pads to work on the H&R springs.
TIA,
Jon L.
