I like this thread..

Even a tech can learn some things from reading the owner's manual. ;-)

My guess is, because they are not motorized. They are spring loaded, or whatever mechanism they have to cause tension, to be forced into the down position. When someone in the back seat lifts them, they catch a latch that holds them in place. In the event that you need more viewable area looking out your rear window, you can push the button that simply releases the latch. Don't think of this as a luxury feature, but as a saftey feature. Of course this is just my humble opinion.

i had this problem when i took my cousel apart and i didnt put it back together right the reason why you get cold air at everyposition is because its not put back together like it is supposed to be. there is an arm behind the litle wheel that is supposed to snap into place if you dont do that it will render wheel useless.

If you have two keys, each one is capable of having it's own setting. One key is a master key while one is designated as a spare, I think.

I dont kno. My button doesnt do anything, lol. I have to manually push the button on the side of each head rest to release the latch.

Maybe I need to hold the button down??

I ran into another one today. I may be the only one that didn't know this... You know the plastic mat stays on the driver's side? For the last year I thought I was missing pieces and couldn't lock the floor mat down. Well, today I was vacuuming the car and realized that the round plastic disc slid off of the round post and was meant to lock in place on top of the mat. The guy who owned the car before me didn't have them connected and I always just assumed they were incomplete. I feel like an idiot.

I already knew this, but when the navigation is active, you can adjust the volume of the spoken directions by turning the volume knob while the lady is talking.

I just found this out by accident, if you push in the volume knob while the navigation is active, it will repeat the last spoken directions...

Ha, I never knew either of those. Used them both today.

I wish my alarm would chirp, only lights flash, I originally thought I was missing something. I also thought my passenger side view mirror tilted down, when in reverse but I dont know if I was dreaming that (I thought it originally did)

you have to press the button for the R side mirror so it will go down when you put it in reverse.

+1 on the chirp. I thought there was some way to set that by changing the car alarm region...something...vaguely remember....

It is done by changing the car to the "Netherland" setting via the Star system at the dealer. My SA was aware of it and said he would do it for free the next time my car was on the computer. That was almost 3 years ago.

You will lose the panic feature on the key with the Netherland setting.

Even worse, I was banging on the left rear rotor with a mallet, for about an hour and half, the first time I replace the rotors. I felt like an idiot when I went and released the parking brake and the rotor literally fell of the hub.

..Aaaah, that explains it. I was having the same problem, and was wondering why the R side mirror stopped going down when in reverse.

Also found out that the driver's side mirror doesn't go down. Kind of weird, but whatever.

How often do you park with the driver's side at the curb?

when my alarm goes off, I only get lights (it's always been this way) and my panic alarm does the same thing. (no siren) however, I noticed the other day while getting something out of my car in the garage. I accidentally set off the alarm and I could hear the siren but it was REALLY quiet. But there is definitely a siren. it sounds like someone shut it off 99%. I can't hear it unless it's in the garage and really quiet. Is this what get's enabled with the Netherlands setting?

you can set the passenger side mirror to automatically re-set where ever you like when in reverse without having to hold down a button. Read the operator manual. I did it so long ago I do not remember the procedure, but it was easy.

What does Key Dependency +On / Off- in the vehicle settings mean? I looked it up on the manual and couldn't find it.

you have to hold the button down for a few seconds.
on the old vacuum operated ones it was hit or miss when they would work. I don't think the new ones are vacuum operated.

With it on, the car will adjust all of the settings / seat / mirror / steering wheel positions depending on which key opens the car.

I imagine the directions are in the separate comand manual which I never had the privilege of owning. The only way I knew my car had voice activation was because Mercedes West Chester told me they hoped I didn't use it because they had to disable it to get my CD changer to work after programming the rear SAM. Lol.

You may have a bad siren, does the panic button cause the alarm to go on loudly?

I don't know if my car was ever changed to the Netherlands setting, but I had the beep after a new alarm siren was installed in my car, but the siren has gone bad again.

The symptoms seem similar to my symptoms, you have a bad siren. When I had my siren replaced under warranty, I had the beep when I unlocked the car and I had a loud siren again, but it's gone bad again and I do not get any sound from it at all. I think the bad siren was actually causing my alarm to go off at random and drain my battery by having the front lights blink.

I bought the alarm siren and plan on installing it this weekend, so you may want to see if it will fix your problem as well.
