Looking At This C55 On Ebay, Opinions?

What does everyone think about this car? Be used as a daily driver and nothing more. Looking to get into something "nice" to use as a driver but I'm worried about the mileage. Would this be a good benz to start out with or should I keep looking?
I'm in VA and the car is in Texas so it's going to be a 16 hour drive to pick it up. What is everyones opinion on it and what should be a good price to settle on?

the c55's are relatively problem free except for a few electronic niggles. One previous owner here sold his because he had a host of problems, but most of us owners have nothing to complain about! One caveat; his grill is painted black; sign of someone into modding or doing some spirted driving at least.

Looks like a pretty clean car. Of course, they all do in the pictures. According to the report, it was a California car before it came to Austin. There has only been two owners which is a good sign. It doesn't look like it had much dealer work done or they would have recorded the mileage. All in all, it seems like a pretty good deal.

Thanks guys.
Would the mileage scare anyone away?
Do these cars hold their value decent? It's lost a lot since it was new, but usually they can only "drop" so bad.
How is insurance rates?

The mileage wouldn't scare me away, but then I've been driving high mileage cars my whole life. My Uncle is a used car dealer and I've always bought cars at auction or from private sellers. As for the value drop, like you said, it only drops so much. It will go down a little more probably in the next few years especially if you put a lot of miles on it. I can't speak for the C55, but my C32 insurance rates aren't horrible.

Not sure if you're dead set on black but my girlfriend is selling her pewter metallic 05 with 64k miles. And in 3-4 weeks she will be moving to Cincinnati so would be that much closer to you. Car is in great shape. Pm me if interested at all. She is asking $21,900 right now but of course it's negotiable.
Good Luck regardless

You asked for opinions so here's mine. I looked at a silver 2005 C55 before I bought mine, it too was a 88k mile car. The price was $16,950 and it was super clean. The problem for me was if I drove it at all, it was going to break the 100k mark. That wouldn't make it a bad car or even unreliable, it would remove 80% + of the buyers out there though if I decided to sell it. Most people are going to feel that lots of parts are tired after a 100k miles and so they say pass. If you are going to buy it, keep it, and say screw the miles then OK, but it does seem a bit high on the $ to me.
A good friend of mine bought his VW Passat new and now it has 260k+ miles.............he got all his money out of it and still loves the car.

Looks like a fine car, no reported accident damage, has all the options, driver's seat looks very good. I wouldn't worry about the painted grille because I see no other modifications and the windows aren't even tinted. Plus, to assume an AMG wasn't driven "spirited" at least on occasion would be dumb. The only "problem" I see is it looks like the dealer put nasty Armorall all over everything! If you buy it, get some Woolite and go 50/50 with water and clean all that crap off and put a real protectant on like 303 Aerospace Protectant.

Seems a bit odd all the factory decals are missing on the upper radiator support. The black grille made me look for things in the same area. Wonder if it took a shot to the nose?

The VMI is clean with no major issues. The car hasn't had an issue since 36k except for a recall which I had done as well. I do agree with the two issues brought up though. The car has definitely been in a accident if those stickers are missing this is one way we were taught to be able to check for this because some of these stickers are not available for purchase so they cannot be replaced. Also that interior looks disgusting will all that armor all on it. I would have them remove it. I always tell the retailers nothing on the interior parts.

The company I work for just looked at a used truck and both CarFax and AutoCheck showed one owner no accidents. When we got there, the rear door had been replaced with a junk yard door of a different color (the matching color on top was already flaking off) and the bed had taken a big shot to the side. I guess the owner never reported the accident to the police and had a buddy with a body shop do the work for cash.
