I'm sure what ever you pick, you'll build a monster. It's just so unfair that you had your project taken from you, you were entering uncharted waters with your set up and we don't know what potential the trans would have made.

I know I would have liked to see a C55 making 11's.

I guess the insurance adjuster took pics of the pedal too. When I went to the body shop (not the strip club for the LA folks, but i wish it was) He pointed out the gas pedal. I didnt even mention it to this guy either....

I'm not the lawsuit kind, but I would like to contact MBZ USA and see what they say.. Let it be known.. This is an issue.. It there was a tree there rather than a curb, I might not be here.. so that scares me. These high powered AMG can over power the brakes very easy when you got the throttle going too. yikes...

I agree and think you should contact MBUSA and see what they say. Regarding a suit, I would think they have a pretty airtight defense against your specific situation (car is modded to an output level VASTLY in excess of the manufacturer's intention). That said, legal issues are tricky business and logic doesn't always equal the end result. Besides, they might offer you a reasonable settlement before it ever got that far... who knows, but doesn't hurt to contact them and see what's what.

Man, completely sorry for both of your losses Mike.

Your build up of a n/a c55 was pretty unique since everyone either left their c55 stock or went kleeman. It inspired me for a while to build a fast n/a c55 as well. Following closely still on how you got 350 to the wheels!

Good luck hopefully they do something for your. It's weird people have this issue though. I actually had to remove one of those studded pads before and it wasn't an easy task I had to spray it with WD40 and stretch it out with a screw driver. I wonder if it only effected certain ones.

The insurance company wants to see all my receipts and and my estimation of what I think the car was worth. This is a step in the right direction

At least they are asking for receipts. The fun/work that went into putting stuff on, probably won't be reimbursed, but worse things have happened. I would add up all the receipts and add them to a typical price for the car (year, miles, condition) and say here's what I have in it. They won't pay that, but if you start low they will never go up past what you're asking for. Start high and negotiate down. If I were in your shoes I would have my rock bottom price I would accept before I gave them any number.

You said you racked up $33K in invoices right? I say go somewhere around that number.

The number that keeps poping in my head is about 34K. So I might ask for 38K and go from there.

Was the car specifically insured for an agreed-value level, or just as an "ordinary" C55? That will likely dictate the ballpark the insurance-company-check falls into.

For example, it's my understanding (although I've never done it) that you can say to your insurance agent "hey, I have a car worth $25k, but I have $35k worth of modifications invested into it. I want to insure that investment, here are the receipts, and I'd like for you to quote a policy for an agreed-upon value of $60k." They'll adjust the premiums accordingly, and establish the policy at that level.

If it was insured like any other C55, with the same premiums other C55 owners are paying, they're probably not going to budge mutch off of the vehicle's basic market value. Nationwide search of C55 looks like asking prices are averaging about $23k at present. KBB seems to suggest $17-20k for a private party value. Edmunds is a little higher, with their "True Market Value" at $23k.

Good luck and keep us posted on how it turns out.

Normally, if you have a car that's worth vastly more than it's original value, you need a special insurance policy to cover it. I have special "stated value" insurance on a couple of my cars just in case!

How much do you think they will sell the car back to you for?

The car is still mine as of right now, I have just compiled all my receipts as requested by the insurance company. After I fax them all the thing they ahev asked for. Like pictures of the install work, Statements from Dyno-Comp, My estimated value of the car. They even want to know who rare a car like this is in this form. Along with accolades a car like this has, (kinda strange but Ok.)

This could all be fruitless in the end but we will see.
