IMO:
Why even bother with Green/K&N? I'm asking very seriously here. Both use media that require oils to achieve filtration. Both have SIGNIFICANTLY less surface area than stock paper filters. K&N has also stated that thier filter is not designed to filter particles as small as the stock paper filters are. Of course both Green and K&N will perform well when new, but what about the long term effects? How well does the filter last in the long term? Not only from the performance perspective, but also in filtration ability. Yes some people see a SLIGHT improvement in power, but often times they are doing a baseline with dirty paper filters, and comparing that to fresh K&N/Green filters. Also, I don't care what race cars use, some of them have thier engines re-built all the time. There are MANY components on a race car that just aren't practical in a day to day environment.
I'm not saying that these products are bad, I'm saying that they may not be necessary or the best idea on our engines. We've seen them clog up MAF's when over oiled. We've seen them fall apart, both the media and the gasket around the media. Why would you want to risk any of this when the paper media performs admirably, filters particulates better, and there are no concerns about warranty or MAF issues?

We are all influenced by high dollar advertising and when we see the claims by K&N we get sucked in. They don't ever say "We let in more dirt so we will slowly wear out your engine, that's how we get more air in. Oh yeah, don't forget, a street engine can't use any more air than a stock element provides! Now fork over $90 to get these great benefits!" That would be truth in advertising, but it will never happen.

-K&N (or maybe green) for the suckers who create MAF issues, get to waste time a couple times a year for no benefit, feed dirt into their engines and pay $90 to do it.

-Paper (stock) for the person wise enough to see through the hype and BS and actually care they aren't feeding dirt into a $15k engine

For those that want to disregard the post, I'll sell you them for 50 bucks, or for those looking to use them on a track day... PM me if interested...

i've run K&Ns in my C32 for 5 years and have never had a problem. they did make the throttle response better and may have picked up a whp or two. only difference is that i clean them every couple of months (3 or so). with the stock air filters, i did not get the same responsiveness.
i've put like 60k on the car at least with K&Ns...no problems....and i'm going to continue driving with them....with no problems.

After thinking about it, all my other cars were single conical filters, maybe the combination of dual filters and natural aspiration may fall into play. Are the C32's filters smaller? The c32's supercharger may play a part in keeping their MAF's in tact.

This is prolly the first case of green filter's oil messing up MAF.
If you got the eariler batch of Gfilter, it is known to fell apart after 1 year (give or take)..
And lemme tell ya something.. Green filter is more expensive than K&N.... and I was told it's more safer to use it than K&N
Lastly, how'd u get 2007 C55![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)

Also GF have been known for other issues not your claim which is first many have heard of...I used ITG,K&N and GF without said mentioned or anyother issue...I used to prefer GF but since jumped ship and use K&N primarily

I've used K&N filters in my Mercedes cars for years and never had a problem.
It's all i how you take care of them, being they are oiled based if you don't clean them often they wont flow properly cause they will get clogged, and if you over oil them it could cause issues with excess oil mist being sucked in, depending on your intake setup of course.

Speaking of air filters has anyone heard of or used Spectre Filters? Seen some recent ad's for them, suppose to be like K&N except cheaper on cost, and same perfromance, oil based as well.
Just wondering if anyone heard of or used them...
Spectre Performance Filters
They HP and CFM rate the limits of their filters so you can choose the right one for your vehicles hp and CFM requirements to get the best performance, check out this video:

ok so i figured i would get into this converstation and chime in my $0.02 the reason why i went with KNN wasnt for power I drive about 30-40.000 miles a year I got tired of buying new paper filters which cost about 5 to 10 dollars cheaper than KNN i just saw long term savings. well I've been running knn for a year and some change I've driven 56.000 miles with it and no problems so far ( i have sucked a few birds down my intake, no harm to the knn they cleaned right off.) to me the most impartant thing with the knn is making sure the filter dries all the way before reoiling it, and a bit afterward.

Cleaned 'em at 25K and they were dirty but the rubber outsides were like new. I understand that this is not the norm for Greens, but I bought them amidst the period of time when all the "bad" ones were being sold and mine were still fine so...
