Can a bent sway bar affect wheel position..?

as the tittle states.. I am having a slight left rear wheel rub on the fender.. So i took the wheel off today to take a glance and noticed that the connection between the sway bar and link is about 2mm away from the lower control arm, also noticed the sway bar bushing is ripped.. As for the right rear, its about a 1/2 inch away from the lower control arm and the bushing is in good shape.. about a year ago i got a flat tire going about 40 mph where i ended up going over a curb with left side first.. can that be the cause of the wheel rub..?

A bent sway bar will tweak the ride height side-to-side only, it has no effect on wheel location. Sway bars have been known to slide out of position side-to-side causing rubbing though.

+1 If you do or don't have a sway bar, the wheel postion is only controlled by the control arms. Since a sway bars job is to be twisted and go back to original shape, much like a spring, I would really doubt it's bent but all the control pieces aren't. They are no where near as robust as a sway bar. The impact probably bent the control arms and that's why the sway bar isn't the same side to side now.

great point gentlemen.. wut about the link that connects the sway bar to the knuckle..? maybe that could be bent causing the pull on the sway bar closer to the lower control arm..?

I think you're looking up a dead chickens *** for an egg salad sandwich. Here's the thing, you have a wheel that is rubbing after the same side had an impact. The only thing that will be responsible for that is the control arms, not the sway bar or the sway bar links. If the sway bar is not in the correct postion, it's because it was pushed/pulled there from the impact and the now bent control arms that are allowing the wheel to rub.

I would take it to an alignment shop and have it checked first before I spent any $ on parts. Just a few degrees makes a big difference.

yes it does, huge difference.. my friend has a shop with the alignment machine, the car will need to be raised so we can drop the rear in order for us to get to the rear lateral link..

no need to be bitter about your sick pepboys style wheels. the gills on the bumper are incredibly tacky, but i'm sure they help with your 10 second drag times passes....in the 1/8th mile that is. ricer.
