Shifting from 1st to 2nd gear

When the car shift from 1st to 2nd gear on full throttle it shifts at 5500-5700rpm specially when there is spin, every 4 to 5 runs only one get to 6000 rpm, it makes me angry specially when racing with another car, is there any way to make it shift at redline from 1st to 2nd gear? all other gears are fine.

If you have it in the manual mode it should hold shift until redline.

I don't have manual mode, my paddle shifts work with S and C.

peak torque is 4300-4400 rpm, and you want your shifts to put you a few hundered rpm before peak torque so acceleration is maximized. engine loses torque over 5500 rpm.

For 1/4 mile you need hp much more than torque.

hmmm i heard of some sti owners doing this since the turbo runs out of power in the top end.

I know my friend did it in his sti and the car seemed to pull harder but i don't know if it was actually faster.

I think it would be interesting if someone ran at quarter both ways.

do u manually shift it yourself?

u do know if you put the gear selector all the way to 1st gear, the car will automatically shift itself to the perfect shift point? if your on full WOT, and u leave it in 1st gear, you dont need to shift to 2nd manually, the car will do it for u. u should try it

I dunno about you guys but i think a handful of engineers at mercedes know a little more about the shift points than we do.

If this were always the case, there would be no need for "tunes" or "chips". Revving the motor to redline is usually not the quickest way down the 1/4 mile. between 5500 and 6500 rpm the engine is screaming away, making lots of noise, but not accellerating the car as quickly as it could be. This is just my observation and I'm in no way going to argue with all the experts on this forum. However, I suggest that instead of making statements based on your opinion of what "should" be faster you might want to test it for yourself. When I tune my cars, I always set my shift points so that the car stays within the max tourge for the longest time period possible. If your engine has cams or big valves or ported heads or some other mod that allows it make more torque at 6000+ rpm, then yes by all means that would be the better shift point.

I do it always like you said, i leave the gear selector at 1st gear and let it shift itself, and it shift at 5500-5700.

When you shift at 5500,your rpm will drop below 4500 and will loose torque but if you shift at 6000rpm you will conserve more torque for the second gear.

Don't you have LET tune? I know when stock my c32 liked to shift a little early, but after 185MM, and tune it seems to hold until 6.2k RPM.

it did the same thing when i had the power chip tune. I'm pretty sure it did it when i was stock too...the stock redline is suppose to be 6200rpm..

Maybe his gas peddle isn't registering as WOT? I don't know, but I do remember it shifting a little early at times when stock.
