I totally somehow missed the multiple spots where he said the head gaskets were done, heh.
Anyways, you would definitely lose coolant with glycol contamination problem. But I think if he was losing enough that he was having to refill his transmission would be shedding tears by now.
Maybe it's a simple external radiator leak though? I'm guessing you don't get any puddles or anything obvious?
And how did they confirm it wasn't the intercooler? Did they pull it out and do a pressure check on it?

I would've done one of two things with it... Hook it up to an external pump with bright green fluid and let it run for a while and then look for any drips.
OR if you're more impatient and brave find out the psi of the intercooler pump, put an equivalent amount of air pressure on the intercooler, and cover it with a soapy solution and look for bubbles.
If you aren't seeing puddles under the car and there's no obvious signs of a leak on your radiator then the only two things I can think of are the intercooler or headgasket.

I can't say since I haven't seen it in person but I'm not entirely sure it would be obvious just looking at the intercooler. If it was leaking on the backside any drips would just get blasted into the engine from the s/c.

Hi,
i would say you couldnt test it, if the intercooler is leaking.
Go and remove the "intake manifold" and the supercharger, if you see brown, blue-green or white "dirt", your intercooler is leaking.

2. Is coolant lost when you drive the car?
I guess what I'm getting at is - have you tested the obvious? If you have another car that you can use, fill up the coolant system and leave it in an area for a period of time where you can monitor for any coolant loss on the ground. That may indicate leakages at hosing or the heat exchanger.
Alternatively, it may indicate a leak in the main coolant system - i.e. the main radiator / heat exchanger and associated plumbing.
3. You said your mechanic checked the intake runners and there are no signs of coolant caked on the sides of the runners.
You also alluded to the fact that no coolant is evident in the valley between the heads.
It appears as if you only have two other real possibilities:
A. The head gasket job you had done wasn't done correctly or else there was underlying damage.
Just for giggles, remove the oil cap and take a look inside. If you don't see any signs of coolant mixture, change your oil and inspect it.
B. The intercooler is in fact compromised and coolant is leaking from that.
Since it seems that you have no other options or answers at this stage, remove the supercharger and intercooler (not a difficult job by the way) and test the integrity of the intercooler.
Pressure test the unit as you would for a radiator and test at various pressures. Place the intercooler into a container of water, apply pressure and look for air bubbles.

1. How much coolant are you losing (at least guestimate) and how long does it take to lose this quantity?

2002 C32 1987 190E 2.3 334K miles and going
Holy Moses!
Either this car was abused, or poorly maintained, or simply
the one bad apple in the lot. I don't think I've read any post in this forum regarding a cracked block.
My 87 190e had a heating problem (fan won't kick in at 100 C) and eventually
after prolonged disregard and always driving close to overheating, one of the cylinders lost compression due to a blown (leaky) head gasket. Got a valve job.
BUT, no damage to the engine block.
I now have 343K miles on it
and running just great.
I hope things work out just fine for you, too.
