If mercedes were to make a c55 (the new e55 engine in a c class W203 sedan chasis) I would be in heaven. That would be THE car. Mate it up to a nice sequential tranny and I would be in heaven.

I dunno... what would the added weight do to the balance and handling of the car? From the 3.2l to the 5.5l is a biiiiig jump.

C55 was a special order from AMG, based upon W202 chassis. It used 347HP version of 5.5L and was produced in very limited numbers. Around 30 total.

Putting 5.5L into current W203 chassis is possible, however at high $ price. Also handling will be negatively affected due to extra 100 lbs. at the front end.

Yep

But I´m sure that AMG will find a solution

Yes, I've even been driving multiple C 55s (W / S 202). Is there anything in particular you want to know?

The ones I've been driven handled extremely well, but it still depends on the chassis / supsension. Since the C 55 has been used as a DTM and Formula 1 Medical Car, AMG had quite some nice set-ups to offer.

Because of the weight of the engine, it has a little tendency towards understeering, but since you have soo much torque, it doesn't matter any more once you start accellerating out of a curve.

We had a professional race driver from Renault (=neutral) test drive a C 55 vs. the current M3 in Anneau du Rhin, France during one of our track days. The M3 didn't stand a chance...

A Member of the AMG Owners Club has his one for sale right now:

Autocar ran a C55 on their 0-100-0mph group test a couple of years ago. They said:

In a normal AMG car, to achieve a good 0-100mph time, you do the following:

1. Switch air conditioning off

2. Try to put your right foot through the floor

However, do this in a C55 and there will initially be no sense of forward motion, following which your rear view mirror will fill with the view of melted 275 size tyres. The C55 is the baddest thing ever to come out of Zuffenhausen.

Zuffenhausen = Porsche
Affalterbach = AMG

You are right: There has never been an AMG that reacted so aggressively to any movement of the gas pedal.

Every C 55 was a stock C 43 that was received a new engine, bigger brakes, stronger gearbox,... in Affalterbach afterwards.

Unfortunately, I don't think they offer the C 55 conversion any more.

I have customer with a w202 C55 who ordered UD pulleys the other day. It would be scary if he added a Kleemann SC to that car!

I personally know 5 of them (having even been on the Autobahn with two of them today). One is even selling his C 55 right now in case someone is seriously interested.

Yes: W/S 202 C 55. There is no W/S/CL 203 C 55 (and there won't be), but since the next SLK (R 171) will be available as an SLK 55 AMG there is hope that the next C-class generation will get a V8 AMG model again (somewhen 2006/2007). I sure hope so.
