HELP just bought 03 c32 amg - WHINING noise
Hey everyone,
I just bought an 03 C32 amg.
Car just went out of warranty and had a lot of things replaced.
v.c gaskets
supercharger pulley w/bearing
engine mounts
control arms
car has 97000 miles
Car makes a small whining noise at idle. Anyone know what this is? Normal for this car?
what are the signs of supercharger low on oil or need oil replaced?

well thats not good. Wouldnt the dealer have noticed that when the previous owner complained about a noise and then they changed the pulley/bearing for it? It was done a few months ago.
Anyways, I am going to take it to the dealer today.
Someone told me superchargers make a little but of noise at idle, but I am not familiar with this car at all, or superchargers in general.
can the belt be a little lose?
Any other problems I should look for with this car?
Thanks

okay. I am located in southern california. Car drives very nice though, and faster than another c32 I drove.
I can video the noise if needed. I just dont know if a supercharger makes a very light noise at idle. and My MB dealer is closed for service on the weekends I just learned

The whining noise could be the sound of the super charger. Some members here took off some of the engine weather stripping, added a code 3 intake, and took out the intake resonators so that they could better hear the super charger. If it's just a hard whine that you get when you accelerate than it may just be a regular sound. If it's a metallic grinding noise, then it's going to be bearing.
You can take a rubber hose and put it up to the bearing to see where the noise is coming from. Other pulleys will start make noise as well, so don't rule out the pulleys. There are a few horror stories about the bearing on the idler pulleys seizing and shearing off their mount.
I would suggest a pulley saver kit from needswings.com for a more affordable solution to your other pulleys if they are giving you a problem.

It could be the idler pulley going bad, which is right next to the supercharger pulley. Mine used to make a noise at idle but it was intermittent.

I would go with the pulley saver kit by needswings.com. I am not too sure they can be used with the factory crank pulley, but I would send them an email and find out. I am using one currently and a lot of motor sound that I thought was normal disappeared. http://needswings.com/Pulley-Saver-K...psk178181.aspx

Easy fix, replace it with stock or as as folks say get the needswing kit. very easy intsall either way. Stock pulley will take you about 30 minutes your first time (15 after that)...needswing kit took me a couple horus becasue I rerouted some coolant lines...not sure if that was nesessary

You're probably OK on your coolant lines. Mine were very close so I used elbows on them along with some new hose, one elbow back down by the heat exchanger on one line and another up top on the other (see image) so they come in and a different angle providing more clearance. Its still close a but a little bit better.
