Rain Sensor Voodoo
When I have my wipers turned on auto, the sensor seems to have a mind of its own. It will just randomly wipe when there isn't a hint of rain.
Is there something I need to adjust? Or clean?

maybe i am wrong. but i think the auto feature is more for when it rains hard then light then hard then light and the wiper speed adjusts automatically according to the rain.
i don't leave it on auto all the time.

I have a rain sensor, I've checked both visually and with my VIN. However when I turn the wiper position to I for auto-sensing it just goes off at set intervals, not intermittently according to the amount of rain. The windshield was never replaced which I've heard could be a cause. Anyone have an estimate on what the repair for that sensor/module is?

Have the same exact issue, it happens once in a while, and it should be expected given how they work.
They work by examining the visual clarity of the windshield, by shining some infra red light at an angle. See this article: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/wiper4.htm
I think it's fairly easy to trick the system into thinking it's raining if something happens to distort the light. Dirt, overpasses, trees, who knows. The system is obviously smart enough not to do it all the time, but it definitely isn't perfect, so once in a while it happens.
As mentioned above, if it's happening constantly, make sure your windshield is really clean, or the sensor is not busted. Otherwise consider it normal

mines never worked in the way i thought it would, i just dont bother it. i need a new windshield, and was considering getting one without the sensor, and saving 200. not sure what would happen without it hooked up though
