How do you tell people that don't know what "AMG" is?

This thread actually raises a really good point; most people don't know what an AMG really is. So that begs the question of who are people trying to fool when the slap an AMG badge on random non-AMG cars? I saw a CLS500 "AMG" the other day, made me laugh. Seems silly though because for the most part the only people who know what AMG even means are going to know it's fake so what's the point?
Although my favorite fake-badging is still when I saw a GT-R badge on a Honda Civic.

My girlfriends uncle has a leased CLS550 and it has the AMG package (brakes, wheels, suspension, etc...) and the dealership put the AMG badge on his car before leasing it to him. He knows it's not an AMG but it made me wonder, shouldn't there be something that stops the dealer from doing that?

No, just like there's nothing from stopping the dealer from adding the "rust, dust and must" protector package. Lots of dealers add AMG to non-AMG cars, particularly when they put on the AMG wheels. I see non-M cars with M badges all the time and the latest fad seems to be the Alpina Badges on many 5 & 7 Series cars (the Alpina B7 is a real 500 HP car BUT its real obvious too with its exhaust sounds, the spoilers etc)

I'm guessing 98% of the general public don't know what the difference between a C230 and a C55/C32 and have no idea what "AMG" is. I've described it is the Mustang vs the Mustang Cobra (best American correlation I can think of) but that's not a very accurate description. Fist quesiton is, how often do you guys run into someone that knows what you have? Secondly, how do you describe it to a co-worker or family member that has no idea?

lol i used to say it was the equivalent of an m3, but i smoked one on saturday so that doesn't work anymore. i went to a car show in cali. called "nor cal vs. so cal" and mymbonline.com came out and repped their cars, it was histerical, there were c230 kompressor's with a huge wing on the back and the badges said "c32 mpressor"
