Porterfield or EBC?
Getting a C32 brake kit installed on my C320. What pads will give me the best performance while reducing Brake dust? How do the stock MB pads do, is dust a big problem with the stock pads??

2000 M Coupe and 2001 C320
I've used EBC greenstuff on my M coupe and I will never use them again.
They are not very consistent. After 2000miles or normal usage (no track or autox) there was significant amount of pad transfer which caused horrible vibration when braking. I replaced the rotors and replaced the pads with porterfields and have not had any problem since (now 10Kmiles).
I found out later that EBC does not have a good reputation. I'll never buy them again.

i got porterfields on the fronts and im 100% satisfied with them. there was a squeak when slowing to stop but i fixed it with the paste that came with the pads.
depending on price, ill probably keep the rear brakes oem but ill know when they start to fade.

i also have porterfields R4-S on the front and oem on the rear and i am very pleased with the porterfields. i think the consensus would agree that the biggest complaint about the oem pads are that they produce a tremendous amount of dust. however, i dont know of anyone who lacks confidence in their braking ability. the porterfields have adequate stopping ability while producing, IMO 75-80% less dust. the most noted complaint about the porterfields are that they squeal excessively. use the paste, break them in properly and you should have no problems.

............Not to confuse things, but I have tried both the poterfields and the EBC greenstuff pads I don't know which one is worse. THe potterfields will squeak regardless of brake-in or antisqueak paste. I replaced them three times and replaced my rotors and did everything and they squeaked liked a stuck pig.
.............I went to EBC greenstuff pads and at first was happy. I had no squeaks and about 50% reduction in brake dust. Now, 2000 miles later, I still have no squeaks but I cannot notice much difference in brake dust copmpared to OEM.
...............As far as braking is concerned, I believe OEM pads are by far the best. The Potterfields offer very poor wet brake braking and if you have one of these pads, be aware of this. The EBC greenstuff are somewhere in between.

I've spend quite some time researching the brake pad issue on the C32.
I've found that BMW E31(850/840CI) 8/93> and Nissan Skyline GTR have the same brake pad as the C32. Hawk size for that would be HB-181 and Pagid size U1427, stock C32 pad measures roughly 120mm X 70mm.
Mintex Red box can be had for about $60 and they should have much less brake dust compare to stock C32 pads.

OK, this thread doesn't make me very happy, I just ordered the Green Stuff EBC pads for my E55, I guess I'll have to learn the hard way, but I'm already scared by the comments here

You Can Eliminate The Porterfield Brake Squeak by Installing a Custom made metal shim on the Back side...METAL Backing Side of the Brake pad. You can use Thin Sheet metal ... And Trace The pad...Notching where the holes are... I Have Done This and it has Worked GREAT ..
On Several of my cars/trucks With Porterfield pads!
NO More Squeak!
Give it a Try!
